Hooray, more Mechademia coverage! Frenchy Lunning, the person in charge of this, wishes to emphasize the importance of anime and manga fans to this publication. It won't be just another academic journal, read in intellectual circles and destined to be stored in college libraries. She really wants a smooth mesh of academia and fandom, as implied by the journal's title. I can't think of another academic journal that has opened up submissions for papers to fans before. Hopefully this will be a first step to a proper "anime studies" field in academia. Anywho, I can't wait to see the first issue.

I'm so glad this project has reached this point.

As a member of the advisory board I've followed the progress for sooo long and I'm really itching to get my hands on a copy.

Frenchy and the others have done a great job so far and I'm sure will continue to do so in the future.

Me too. I remember thinking "I can't wait to see this!" over a year ago when Frenchy was explaining it, bubbling with excitement. The other week she said that it may be ready by next spring instead of fall 2006. It all depends on the U of M press. I think a graphic designer has yet to be found, but the illustrations are nearling completion, and the cover is being worked on as we speak.
