I wonder what prevented them (or why they chose to) from including the Japanese audio. In any case it should at least have a decent price. If I find a copy worth $30-45 dollars, then I have no complaints.

My friend E-Mailed them about the audio still having the high pitch effect (like the old DVD sets) & the 23.976 video being played at 25fps.

Looks like I will be waiting for that later bilingual release. I wonder if it might be 2 separate sets - was there any editing/cutting on the American/Speed Racer version?

It'll be two seperate sets of Blu-rays and DVDs in one collector's edition package. The American version, Speed Racer, was edited down from the original uncut Japanese version, Mach GoGoGo.

I really hope they can address the high pitch audio since I've seen other international releases that do not have this problem.

Yes, there was some edits in the American version. I just don't know why they don't do one release with 2 playlists!? One playlist with the English dub & the other one; Japanese with English subtitles (Like how movies have 2 playlist with the theatrical & Directors cut versions)

Speed Racer is heavily edited from the original Mach Go Go Go, it simply isn't possible to have both the dub and Japanese audio over the same footage. And I wouldn't worry about price, these have a massive price of... $20. Quite a deal considering the video quality is exquisite.

Just $20? Works for me! Very Happy Since its different from the original, what is the main difference between both versions?

Sounds shady to throw the Japanese version on a collector's edition; the price is inflated for being a "premium" release, and inflated further for having the dub on it.

When I saw Japanese audio and the $20 price tag I almost jumped on it. But now I'm glad I didn't. I knew it was too good to be true. I'll wait for a Mach Go Go Go set. Someday.

Wait, they are? I know what you're talking about because those issues go back to it's old TV broadcast run on Cartoon Network but I checked the 4 episodes that FUNi has streaming on their website and other than episode 1 (excluding the OP & ED which are fine), the rest don't look to have those issues.to me.

That's because unlike with single movies, it would require using more discs for full episodes so as not to kill the video quality (see Maiden Japan's first Patlabor TV set and Discotek's Sherlock Hound set) and it would probably be priced higher than it is now which would turn away most who only want the old dub.

I want Mach Go Go Go myself but it's easy to see why they went this route with splitting both versions, especially when it has been done before with other similar shows in the past.

Sounds like someone working on autopilot from the standard BD packaging template and forgot to remove the bit about Japanese audio Razz

I thought that'd be a given. They're definitely marketing this set to the broader nostalgia crowd, not so much anime fans. Hell, my parents might get a kick out of it.

Tuesday evening, I saw the Speed Racer disks already on the racks at a Walmart in Ottawa, Canada (Billings Bridge Shopping Centre) and I can confirm that they have the Japanese audio listed erroneously on the packaging.

I probably wasn't going to buy it anyway due to overall money-lack but I will admit I was tempted for a few seconds by the promise of Japanese audio even if it was just an error. (Yeah, I know the Mach Go Go Go set is coming but I doubt that one will show up at Walmart.)

I have an ancient Spider Riders DVD from Funimation with the exact same typo ... that was then continued by Vivendi when that series release shifted to Canada-only. Laughing

They screwed me over only reason i even bought this was because of that !!!
I already got it 2 times before ...
Amazon etc must have mistaken those stupid subs for the hard hearing with a Japanese track they just cheaped out on the sub version cause the English Dub already was the translation and the footage woudn't match up so way more effort and perhaps a lose of quality ... which i woudn't care about cause i woudn't even had bought it if i knew it was just the cut version again ...
They even could have only got the Japanese version of it on there i mean that English version was already released like 5 times who cares about it now ...
Now i'm pretty sure we will never got the uncut version ofically !!!
Off to poke some fan sub groups about it xd i guess ...
