Not really a surprise. This screamed like something that was going to be more then a 1 season thing.

But I'm happy! I loved Katsugeki.

I only hope Aniplex takes a chance on this future movie(s) and releases it theatrically. I'd go see it.

..... hate to be a downer, but... those look like clips from the series, so... maybe it's a recap?

(I recognized Tsurumaru on the ship, the way Mutsunokami holds his gun, Mikazuki with the sword with the blood on it, as moments from the series...)

After actually watching the episode and the words that came with the announcement, it looks like this movie will be an extended telling of the whole season? Maybe? Or maybe it'll be the last arc and it'll involve Kunihiro's 3-year journey. Either way, I'm all for more Tourabu.

And yes, they did use material from prior episodes for the announcement. They were not going to use material from the movie itself for a non-trailer.

I'm just hoping that after the movie airs, it'll get a season 2 that focuses on how Unit 1 came to be. I was hoping for it to begin with but with the reveal in the final episode that Mikazuki and Tsurumaru used to be partners, presumably back when Saniwa could only send two swords into battle and confirming that TSURUMARU was initially a sword in unit 1, and that its implied that the citadel was way different before the events of the current anime, it could be interesting to see how the citadel as well as unit 1, the citadels elite unit came to be.

Ufotable has opened a lot of doors to questions that need to be answered and interesting storylines that they could dive into. I've seen JPN fans requesting this sort of story for the movie or the assumed second season katsugeki may get. I hope ufotable delivers instead of wasting the opportunity to go more into depth with unit 1.

I don't really care for the idea of the movie being about unit 2 since their story arcs pretty much concluded ( or at least the characters that were important enough to get them in unit 2 ). Save for Horikawas 3 year absence ( which wouldn't constitute for a sword boy movie since it would only include ONE sword boy and would otherwise be shinsengumi ) I don't see how there would be more of a story to tell for unit 2 as a group. But regardless, even if the movie is about unit 2, I'm still holding out hope for a season about unit 1 and the citadels origins .

Haha that spoiled me, I haven't watched the last episode yet. So Dogakobo which sold more numbers is making a season 2 of Touken Ranbu Hanamaru while Ufotable does the movie of Katsugeki. Looking forward to these projects.

I sure do hope the Katsugeki movie feature some fresh new group batches, I had enough of that 5-hour soap opera drama of team 2 lel, team 1 is like a breather because it went on full Jackie Chan but that's just 1 episode. We need team 3 or something in the movie.[/b]

Well just like it's sister series Hanamaru which sold more, it sold some pretty decent numbers the collectors edition sold around 13k copies, vol1 sold 8K but it doesnt make up for the fact that Hanamaru which never had the same Ufotable-unlimited budget+plot compared to Katsugeki sold for 20k average. Ouch!

Katsugeki only sold 20k? Aren't they not done releasing the DVDs? Because they just did a preorder for another DVD with more episodes on it and then after the one they just released there's two more to go.
