I really enjoyed the game in spite of the translation, but there were large problems. Several food descriptions (temporary buff items) were switched incorrectly. For instance, the food might say you get a raised attack stat, but you're really getting temporary regenerate. There are awkward wordings everywhere, strange profanity (I don't mind profanity, but it came out in weird, relaxed spots) and what seemed to be machine translation.
A few examples spring to mind:
There is a medical doctor character. In Japanese, he would be called Sensei but might need to explain that he is a medical doctor and not a professor or something, since you have no context. In English, there is a conversation that goes:
"I'm a medical doctor."
"A medical doctor?"
"Yes, a medical doctor."
"So, what kind of doctor?"
"A doctor that practices medicine."
There is also an upper class character who follows that Japanese rule of not referring to anyone by their given name only unless they are super close. In English, this results in her constantly yelling the main character's full name our loud for about half the game.
Also, a character yelling "How many are there?" non-rhetorically about something when there are clearly three.

Thats good to hear, I haven't bought the game yet. I'll wait for the PC version which I hope will be the definitive version.

If you mean Laxia, that part at least is not a localization goof. She does indeed refer to Adol as "Adol Christin," even in the Japanese audio (it's just as super-awkward, too). The rest of your points still stand, though.

If they have to redo nearly 100% of the material, then there is no way they did not know fully that it was a terrible translation job. They were just trying to have it slip under the radar.

But if the PC port is good and the new translation is fine, I'll refrain from grumbling (too much.)

Well this is NISA after all. They have done plenty of crappy translation jobs. At least this time they are fixing it.

Not out of the goodness in their hearts though. They normally sweep whatever backlash they get under the rug and continue on without changing anything.

I really don't think that it's a coincidence that after the fanbase's email campaign to Falcom, NISA later announced that they're retranslating the game.

I really hope Aksys is paying attention for Tokyo Xanadu Ex+'s sake too. If they don't fix their translation (or even finish translating the game >.>) then the game is gonna flop hard.

If the consumers had cried loud enough, would they have fixed Cardcaptor Sakura's subtitles? Oh well...

Like Ar tonelico II and III. Ar tonelico II is 1 of my favorite games of all time, but the translation, bugs, etc. just kind of ruined it. But I still love the game regardless.
