I'll say this first, I like Kigurumi Guardians.

But the whole premise is creepy.

These aliens or beings from another place, have come to Earth to claim their adolescent (intimate) partners, they bestow their partners with magical powers that effectively put them above the law, and brainwash their partner's loved ones into thinking it is perfectly normal for large furry cosplayers or animals to be walking around in their house and in their children's bedrooms.

But hey, it's a manga (or anime). It's what they do.

Once you give children super powers, magical powers, or the power of the gods; and then require them to perform the functions of adults (like fighting evil people, creatures, and monsters), with the threat of impending death on the plate..... are they still really 14 years old. When they can physical crush the entire police station, when they can destroy anyone who threatens to arrest them, or can brainwash us all into thinking nothing is wrong; does age really matter anymore. They are not 14 anymore. 14 is a boy or a girl going to school with their friends and coming home to a normal family. Once you give or force on children the responsibilities of adults, you also give them the perks that come with it.

If that 14 year old can die fighting the villain of the week, they are not a child anymore.

Sadly, there are a lot of children in real life that don't have powers, but they aren't children anymore either.

You bring up a lot of good points. I think that for whatever reason (probably the kigurumis, honestly) this manga really brings some of the genre's more disturbing conventions to the forefront. I don't know if that was Lily Hoshino's intention or not, but considering she was involved in crafting Penguindrum's deliberate aesthetic, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
