I thought the same thing at first but then realized Japan is close to the same size as California. The shipping should be pretty cheap for Amazon there.

I think this wasn't for the cost of the shipping, but rather the streaming. If it was just for video, I'd pay the $40 or so annually. I just can't justify the cost of prime if I'm only using part of it. To me, prime is a bundle, like most ISPs. You can't get internet without phone and satelite or cable. I currently have unbundled internet and I like it that way. Give me amazon video without the rest of the crap.

You can get it separately, but here in the US, you won't save much, and may pay more. Amazon Video alone is $8.99 per month, which is lower than paying for Prime by the month, but more expensive than the annual Prime plan.
