I like Yuuna, I'm really looking forward to the anime in a few weeks.

Obviously this is Vol 1 so it only covers the early stuff, hence why the side cast feels flat, they haven't had a chance to get some spotlight yet, once that happens they start becoming much more likable.

At this point they aren't looking like they'll be any competition for Yuuna in the romance department, which again makes their presence more of an irritant than anything.

Yeah, this definitely changes. If the early chapters are a bit more Yuuna-focused, most of the ones after it flesh the series out into much more of a harem manga.

I've read this manga for long time, Yuuna is good overall. Fan service is there, it can be perhaps annoying but it's slap-stick comedical way it does things. There action/drama snuck in there which is good too. Story is far along in chapters that things will develop more give more substance to the series.

Protagonist Kogarashi finds himself living in an old boarding house that used to be a hot springs inn with four beautiful women who have a tendency to smack him into orbit for anything they perceive as a perverted action. That he's rarely, if ever, actually at fault harkens back to the days when Ken Akamatsu ruled the shounen rom-com world, and that's likely to be a deciding factor as to whether or not you want to pick up this otherwise quite fun story, because if it annoyed you in Love Hina, it'll probably annoy you here.

This seems to be phased out over time; later chapters take great pains to ensure that Kogarashi is blameless in not only the eyes of the audience but those of the characters, to the point that multiple erotic situations are triggered by him getting transformed into inanimate objects.

So is Monster Musume getting moved to Ghost Ship? Only seems fair, considering this naughty Older Teen manga got placed under the label.

No, existing series like Monster Musume will stay as part of the main Seven Seas line.

Old-school harem tropes can't bring down this fun romantic comedy.

− Side characters are mostly just annoying, dated tropes drag things down

So what is the truth?

Both, actually - the side characters and trope aspects are likely to be a problem if you strongly dislike old school shounen rom-coms, in this volume at least. But if you're only mildly opposed to them, they're easily ignored - basically, they aren't overpowering and the story itself is good.

Definitely have to check this out.

I wonder if the anime will be licensed. Hopefully FuniRoll goes for it since Funimation kinda has a monopoly on harem shows.
