From the new poll, "Perona (One Piece)", she isn't a ghost. She can create ghosts and astral project, but she's very much alive.

I started playing the first Yomawari recently. It's not bad! I'm not great with sneaking/getting chased in games but luckily this one isn't too bad and doesn't punish you too much. That said, Mr. Yomawari was a pain to deal with until I released I didn't have to properly escape him, just run away a short distance, and I could just throw the doll at him and he'd get distracted and I could casually walk away.

The opening tutorial though... It shocked my pretty hard. I want people to play the game just to see that tutorial. Oh man.

I've never played one of these games before since they never work on my computer. But the Literature Club one does (I think?), and it's free, so I spent some time with it yesterday.

After a couple of hours, aside from choosing words for poems, which I can't relate at all to what happens afterward, and the order in which the girls swap poems with me, I've only gotten to make 3 actual choices that could maybe be route forks, one of which was flatly denied. The rest has been endless dialog reading. Is that how these are supposed to work? oO Do I have to pay to get some actual gameplay? So far, it's boring me to tears. Helluva introduction to the genre...

I've tried a couple of visual novels. Your experience is the same as mine. Endless insipid dialog and nothing much going on. One was hentai and the even the erotic scenes were boring. Rolling Eyes

That's what visual novels are. Text with pictures. If it's a dating game you'll get some options, such as hang out with x boy, say x thing to make them like you more, which will set you towards a certain ending, but generally they don't have gameplay any deeper than that.
I enjoy visual novels but I'm so bad at playing them because I usually don't feel like reading, and too much reading will make me drop the game and go play something where I can button mash and beat up monsters lol

Well, that's kind of what I was expecting (from dating sims briefly shown in anime), but this doesn't seem to be offering me any options. Like I said, at least 2, maybe more, hours in, and I've been given exactly 3 responses to choose, one of which was immediately vetoed to steer me in another direction (so, really, only 2 occasions I've been given an option, outside of the aforementioned word choices). It looks like it'll be another 8 hours of play before it gets to any sort of interesting "twist," though a couple of dark hints have been dropped. That's not all that's about to be dropped...

The amount of interaction you have with a visual novel varies a lot from game to game. I haven't played DDLC, but I've played a fair number of VNs. Some (like Fate/Stay Night, for instance) give you lots of different interactive options, and some give you very few or even none. The ones with no dialogue choices at all are sometimes called "kinetic novels," and are basically no different than reading an ebook that happens to have pictures and music (Higurashi is a notable example of the kinetic style). Personally I strongly prefer visual novels that have lots of dialogue choices and many different endings, so before I ever start a new visual novel I always read some reviews first to try to get a feel for how interactive it actually is.

A hint with DDLC is that when you are selecting words for your poem, you are also making character choices. Certain words are more favorable to different girls based on their poem type preferences. Double-checking my play time on Steam (and given, this might have a lot to do with how quickly you read) I completed the entire game in 4 hours.

Just recently beat DDLC again. Got the spoiler[golden ending by going all 3 routes first.

Now I'm leaving it as it is with no extra mods or reinstalling the game.

Call me overly sentimental, but they deserve at least that much happiness.]

Thank you so much for including this, I never would have tried it based on it's image! I got such a kick out of what they did and I haven't enjoyed a VN as much for a very long time. And I'm talking DaCapo, YumeMiruKusuri, Kanon, If My Heart Had Wings...I'm not sure if I got the "good" end spoiler[WITH ONLY MONICA. IN A ROOM. FOREVER.] Now I'm trying to get her back, if you delete her file, she "says" things before restoring the game to a new version. She wasn't kidding that she deleted the save point data... Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Added some spoiler tags but so glad to hear you enjoyed it! I got that "end" too and had to look up what to do next but yeah, it was a fun ride!
