I cannot remember a CGDCT series getting a lot of projects in such a short span like Yuru Camp. A short anime, a film, AND a second season. Time for me to read the manga and rewatch the first season. I love this cute comfy camping girls series so much.

I am happy to learn Laid Back Camp is getting a film and a short. Anime smile I wonder if the film is going to have them going on a grand camping trip. It would have to be grand since it's a movie.

Is the Order a Rabbit, K-on, and Girls and Punzer all got quite a lot of content early on. But I am surprised at how fast Laid Back Camp caught on even among American fandom which does tend to look down on these types of shows.

A lot of Americans went camping a lot growing up (either willingly or unwilling), so the show brings up a lot of nostalgia.

They found an underutilised gimmick and ran with it! Quite a feat considering that another show with a similar premise ran concurrently, at least as far as initial appearances are concerned.

Okay.

I'm not kidding you. This is real. It's a term that fans came up with to describe slice of life/moe shows with little to no actual plot. Just Cute Girls Doing Cute Things.

Even more goodness coming up. I wonder if the shorts and movie are out next year and season two starts in 2020. I am happy about this, but I would be happier if Crunchyroll confirms a BD release for season one.

I disagree with the underlined statement. K-On! and GuP have plenty of fans in the U.S. Shows like Gochiusa and Non Non Biyori are not as big, but they are well liked. In my opinion CGDCT shows are not as maligned by Americans as you claim.

Man, a second season and now a film? I’m so happy right now. I wonder if Crunchyroll can get the streaming rights for the film as well and if it’s possible, I hope that not too much time will pass after its’ release in Japan until they can have it on their service.

Oh, I know Drunk. I was not thinking you were joking. However for me personally do not recognize the Just Cute Girls Doing Cute Things nor Moe as being genres. I simple refer to Laid Back Camp as a slice of Life instead.

Or even better, a theatrical release. Anime smile

These shows have large fanbases but there's usually always those type of fans who deride the moe club room shows for "ruining" modern anime. But Laid Back Camp really blew up in a way that other CGDCT shows from this year like Ms. Koizumi and Slow Start didn't. Though I do think the hatred for these shows isn't as huge as it used to be a few years ago.

They're not really genres so much as snarky descriptions of what, supposedly, is the main appeal of the show. Often meant to convey that such shows are pointless and you should watch something where the main audience magnet is violence and explosions or whatever. Also tends to come with someone (in this thread...) saying cute-girl shows have "no actual plot," which doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless time stays frozen from start to finish (but what they mean is that only epic drama, preferably with mortal peril, counts as plot).

Depends on what you mean by Americans, I think. Among anime fans, certain shows are considered acceptable by many people, but there's still a contingent of high-horse riders, and it seems like shows of that description are still considered wastes of time until proven otherwise (the show your avatar is from, for example, which turned some people off because they wrongly assumed it was purely a moe show). Outside the fandom... if you asked a random teen/adult American if they'd watch a show about girls going camping, they'd probably think you were making fun of them.

It's odd that this show caught on in the U.S. while "Encouragement of Climb," which has a very similar concept, did not. Maybe the awkwardly localized title was the problem.
