As someone who is both a mecha fan and a Gen Urobuchi fan, I'm definitely here for this amazing combo.

No mention of Aldnoah Zero? A previous mecha work where he also had credit?

Gargantia and the first 3 eps of Aldnoah along with a bunch of other things... lots of stuff he's done I wonder if the O is a hint.

Didn't he just pitch the original idea or something.

Gargantia was good and Aldnoah Zero was... just there really and then forgotten. But then Urobuchi was only really did the start of that as pointed out already. So it's a bit of mug's game to judge if this "Hardcore Mecha" series will be good or not. Of course, we don't even know if it's an anime or not yet...
So yeah, we'll wait and see.

The only two good episodes imo the rest are straight trash.
I love mecha and Urobutcher so I will look out for this and hope a release date will be announced soon.

He also did Expelled from Paradise, which is still the gold standard for CG resembling 2D animation. The man knows the genre and whatever he makes I’m looking forward to.

I read many good opinion about Muramasa so maybe instead original anime Nitro could adapt Muramasa? I heard Nitro try make Muramasa anime few time but failed. I think Muramasa spin-off is either visual novel or mobage.

The Big O was done by Chiaki J Konaka.

I doubt this announcement has anything to do with The Big-O, but I'd love to see its cancelled 3rd Season get revived.
Aldnoah.Zero was really good through roughly six episodes, in my opinion. After that it was a mixed bag, with some very clever moments but a less ambitious narrative overall. Season 2 felt particularly run-of-the-mill in its overarching plot points, despite some continuation of interesting science-related interim scenarios.
Gargantia was pretty strong throughout--much more consistent than Aldnoah.Zero--though it didn't blow me away.
Non-Urobuchi-related contemporaries Fafner Exodus and Argevollen were stronger mecha showings overall, in my opinion. The former for its scope, spectacle, and human interest in an already thought-provoking franchise, the latter for its cohesive and character-driven take on the military-industrial-complex and how it affects front-line grunts.
As a big mecha fan, I'll be interested to see what this new project is.

Given how much content we get these days that’s either a sequel or a remake, I’m personally hoping for Urobuchi to wow us with something fresh and new.

Urobutcher and Konaka are pretty similar in terms of Wiriting, so it would fit.
