There's even a mechanism in the races where hits on the Jetter and Shooter from rival water gun can cause the covering over the girls' swimsuits to break away; never did understand the practical point to that.

It's a safety feature.

Funniest moment in this otherwise utterly mediocre series.

I found Kandagawa Jet Girls a mostly disappointing series. The first two episodes interested me in the racing aspect only for that to get pushed to the side almost immediately. What few races there were before the finals were so brief and light on tactics, it drained the fun out of them.

Fanservice was dull as dishwater as well. Both excessive and unimaginative. They kept finding reasons to include bath scenes as if to fill an arbitrary nudity quota. The visuals weren't impressive enough to carry most of it either. It was a real step down from the crazy situations and varied character design of Valkyrie Drive; which Hiraku Kaneko also directed.

The one saving grace of this series was the growth of Rin and Misa's relationship; which I read as romantic. It was cute; and watching Misa gradually open up to Rin (who I initially found overbearing before she grew on me) was sweet. Between their interactions and the quasi slice of life middle episodes, KJG struck me as an almost passable CGDCT at times.

Unfortunately that wasn't enough for me to consider this a recommendable series; and neither are the obvious ties to Senran Kagura present in the game branch of this project. As a CGDCT the barrage of incidental fanservice is too distracting. Said fanservice is too tepid to stand out among other ecchi shows. And races are virtually nonexistent, rendering KJG null from a sports perspective. With the exception of viewers whose interests happen to overlap with those genres, I don't know who this show is for. Even then, nothing stands out as particularly noteworthy.

Yeah, I know they said that, but to my recollection the series never explains in a credible fashion how it served as a safety feature. Hence my complaint stands.

I understand, but to me the fact that this "explanation" was so completely ridiculous yet was played entirely serious (they even repeat it!) was what made it funny. It's obviously just an excuse for fanservice, and they don't even bother to pretend otherwise. I easily prefer this over some contrived explanation.

The whole racing thing made so little sense this was probably the least of my problems with the series.

I know what the series is and what it's trying get across but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. Btw-the bluray raws take the fanservice from 5 all the way to 10.

The plot was weak in this one for sure, wish there was more to the story of the main characters mom. That seemed like a worthwhile angle to explore.

The Gyaru team was the best part of the show I wish they had been the main characters lol.

What's this...Katsuhiko Nishijima helped storyboard this anime? Shocked

Now I might have to check it out as I've liked some of his previous works (the first four Project A-ko films, and even Agent Aika, the Japanese version of that is a guilty pleasure of mine, mostly because it's stupidly hilarious Embarassed), but probably only because of him alone, and unfortunately I cannot afford stupid HIDIVE... Mad

And about that thing with the water gun as mentioned in the review, well, the Senran Kagura creators did work on this and do that Peach Beach Splash game, and I even just found out there's actually a game based on this anime coming out this August.

@Sailor Sedna You are correct, this anime is a part of a multi-media project by Honey Parade Games. Who made Peach Beach Splash and most of the recent Senran Kagura games. And while this anime was basically promotion material for the game, I really liked it.

The relationship between Misa and Rin was done really well but I will admit, I wish they could have developed the other characters a little more. I think Theron had a really fair review of this series, it got like super trashed on MAL, which I felt was a little unfair. Kandagawa Jet Girls is essentially a lewd SoL show, perfect for lazy summer afternoons to remind you what it felt like to be outside and hang out with your friends..... as you watch jet-ski/squirt gun battles that occur for some of the dumbest reasons.

I never really hung out with people or really had much to hang out with during summer yesteryears (if, but I agree, it does have a nice summer feeling from what I can tell of it.
