Game looks like it's worth playing, even for newcomers to the franchise, and I'm pretty sure the people who played it cared more for the story/characters, but I'll give it a chance.

I'm just waiting for this to hit PC so I can play it.

Recently played the original Sega Saturn Sakura Taisen via English fan patch and had a blast.

I've played the game for a few hours. I've been having fun with it so far.

I think it would be pretty cool of SEGA to look at porting over the older Sakura Taisen titles at some point - would be awesome to play the original titles as they seem to have held up pretty well all things considered.

So anyone know if the reboot succeed or failed yet?

Sega put quite a bit behind this reboot actually, So I am wondering if we are going to get anymore from it, or if that would be needed at all?

From what I remember not too long ago SEGA picked up webdomains for three other Sakura Taisen names, so that had people speculating either remastering/remaking the older games or a followup to the reboot. Haven't heard much of anything other than that. The TV series definitely bombed at least with otaku. Very, very few disc sales sold.

To be honest, the Anime was low Budget with plenty of ugly CGI. To me it was just one big advertisement for the Game.

And it isnt really a Reboot, its kinda both, a Reboot and a Sequel.

The current TV series was a direct sequel to the game, and assumes viewers have already played the parent game and are familiar with the plot, terms, and character relationships established there.

In fact, it feels more like an afterstory OVA designed more to reel in existing Sakura Wars fans (esp in Japan) over the wider otaku crowd. Which is interesting, considering the franchise had a history of creating tie-in OVAs designed to be watched after you had played the respective source games.

That said, I did hear the established Sakura Wars fandom in Japan had a more positive reception towards the current TV anime during its run, compared to an earlier 2000 TV series adaptation that very loosely adapted the 1st Sakura Wars game.

Might be a bit difficult with the Sega Saturn titles

New to the series although I knew about it for years with the stuff that were previously localized. The game was so much fun I went and got the Platinum trophy back in June and picked up the SD Blu-ray of the first TV series afterwards and that was okay too so basically I'm hooked and hopefully they work on more.

There's nothing on the western releases yet but the last thing that came out from the Japanese one was that it underperformed. Of course this was posted two months after it's December release so things may have changed since then, especially when the game got a later update that fixed some of it's gameplay problems (we got it day 1 but they got it in March).

Then there's the western release to consider which while Sega fumbled a bit with marketing (specifically with the digital releases & their handling of some of the DLC), the general reception on the game itself has been mostly positive from what I have seen elsewhere.

Right, it was Sakura Wars B.L.A.C.K., Sakura Revolution & Sakura Restoration and there hasn't been any updates on those yet.

I kinda predict that if there's another game coming, whether it's a sequel or remastered ports of 1-5, that it would be announced next year as part of the series' 25th Anniversary.

The first two games have been ported multiple times, including on the PC & PSP, so they should be fine. There's also the PS2 remake of the first game that they could use.
