One thing for sure is that it will be a definite step up from Bang Zoom's dub from the original TV series. Seriously, that latter one was one of the most disappointing efforts they made especially on a fan-favorite title. Granted that was made before Geneon closed down, and the U.S. anime industry crashed so I'd imagined they rushed it.

An LA VA leading a Texas cast? I'm reminded of Bryce Papenbrook with Attack on Titan and Funimation's Danganropa dubs (and Johnny Yong Bosch in the Trigun movie).

I guess in some way that's a thematic connection to the original Higurashi dub being in LA.

Well, gonna be straight with you. The creator said that this one is for newcomers and old watchers.

BUT, you gotta take in consideration that your experience will be different to an oldwatcher. You will miss a lot of callbacks, plot changes (Yes, this is not a remake but a new anime.... or a sequel if you are an old fan), details that old watchers will detect, etc.

So in my opinion you can watch this one and you are good to go... but If you like and want the full experience you could watch the old show fist... or in another time.

I only ever saw a little bit of the original Higurashi dub but from what I remember of it that it was very rough and it didn't seem like the dub at the time knew how to do moe characters in English very well. So this is one where I don't mind that they have a recast for the dub.

The old Higurashi isn't on Netflix. I checked.

This is sure a fresh list of names I don't remember hearing before--but will certainly get to know in time!

I've never watched the series period. I used to hate the horror genre, but I'm slowly coming around now. So I'm considering this one.

The bang zoom dub is panned by some fans but I enjoyed watching it back in the day. Rebecca Forstadt was one of the highlights from the original dub. The new cast doesn't strike me as remarkable tho I'll check the dub out for a few episodes to see if the dub is worthwhile at the Very least.

While it has been dubbed before, the idea of Higurashi in English feels a bit strange. Season 2 and al the OVAs were never dubbed, so in a way it never felt like there was a dub.

Man I wish the old cast returned the new voices are alright but the characters just don't sound as good as the old cast, atleast it's still better than the sub, I always notice when I watch a dub I pick up things I never noticed before and the sound effects are much clearer overall the dubs pretty good sounds decent enough to not get a ton of backlash even though the old dub wasn't that bad.

I do like Kei's voice alot however his old dub voice is so iconic to me it's all I hear when he talks in sub I overlap the english voices with the sub voices in my head pretty much for every series but Kei's old voice was really memorable to me, I'm sure the new voices will grow on me though.

I am surprised that they brought back Toshihiko Seki, despite being a COVID-19-positive person.

One of the few times where recasting actually has a positive response.

Now go back and dub the old seasons, you COWARDS. (I know it's more complicated than that, but a man can dream).
