Kind of wish Crunchyroll didn't decline to comment since my initial reaction to this is a resounding "What?"

Just watch Tiger Mask W. Whatever this will be it won't hold a candle to it, especially in terms of production.

Should have partnered with Toei instead.

Crunchyroll announces their original """""anime""""" series left and right (i.e.: Fena, Blade Runner, Shenmue, Dantai), yet none of those things are still within sight. I bet none of those will come out until 2022; in which case, either CR was already merged with Funi or they'll already be shut down by AT&T should the acquisition fails.

Blade Runner is for Adult Swim, and Dantai was announced this year, so it can take some time for it come out.

AT&T are selling companies so they can quickly reduce their debt from merging with Warner. Crunchyroll isn't at risk of being shut down.

As for this WWE deal I can see them taking the WWE stories and applying anime over the top fights to them.

If DOJ blocks Sony's CR acquisition, then that means that AT&T/Warner will shut down CR just like what they did to DramaFever. In that case, then those shows that CR announced will never materialize, because I don't think any of those will show up this year frankly. Otherwise, if the acquisition goes through, then maybe those shows will probably stream under the CR/Funi merger (or whatever that entity would be called).

What bothers me is CR announcing all those vanity productions when they're currently 50-50.

DramaFever wasn't making money so shutting it down made more sense since they couldn't find a buyer. Crunchyroll is making money so it won't get shut down they won't even merge it to HBO Max because they would lose out on double dipping opportunities they already have.

Expect John Cena, a HUGE anime fan, to have some kind of appearance. It would be interesting to say the least. Also, I think either Toei or OLM will animate this series.

At this point most of the Crunchyroll Originals have been decent at best and.... EX-ARM at worst, so I'm not getting my hopes up. It won't be good, but it won't be bad.

On a side note (and without sounding like a hater), what I find odd is that we haven't heard a peep from the other western CR Originals (FreakAngels, Meiji Gekken, High Guardian Spice) besides Onyx Equinox. I know COVID and other matters likely stalled those productions, but it's been over a year and we still don't know much about them besides a basic plot summary. I get CR is trying to make Western anime like Netflix, but I can't see it being a success when they only released one, hid one because of backlash, and have barely talked about the other two. Hopefully this and that Idris Alba anime they're making change that.

spoiler[For me personally I'm just waiting for them to dump whatever episodes of High Guardian Spice exist.]

EDIT: I forgot to say that HGS has been done since the end of 2019. Either way, CR Has barely done anything with it besides showing 5 seconds of footage in a sizzle reel.

I’m pretty sure FreakAngels is getting re-evaluated after the Warren Ellis accusations came to light, with good reason.

Vince McMahon will never settle for the WWE being seen as just a wresting company, but at least when New Japan made a new Tiger Mask, it was based off of a classic manga. What’s the idea here? They don’t have a face that can even carry a show like Hulk Hogan’s Rock N Roll Wrestling (a real show) did, and they’ve tried to make comic books and the like but it never stuck.

If you think about it, Cena really is their version of the ultimate shonen MC. Believe it!

Yeah I can see that happening. And its not just Cena cos there are lots of wrestlers in WWE who are anime fans and that's not counting wrestlers from promotions worldwide.
