I've occasionally wondered if there's a bit of a disconnect between light novel art and the descriptions in the novel itself.
Characters are often depicted as well dressed in conditions where I wouldn't be surprised for them to be wearing rags. Fushi no Kami springs to mind where the overall technological level and societal wealth of the setting is so low that the clothes the characters are drawn wearing seem far too elaborate and expensive for what I would expect. Who knows, maybe in otaku circles Gothic Lolita is a military uniform dress style? |

With the less than stellar reception of the anime in mind, it seems like, while the Light Novel isn't much better in terms of the mystery aspect, Kimihiko's personality and arc come off much more strongly as does Siesta's absence.
I'm getting the sense that it's worth reading the Light Novel more than it is watching the anime, at least if you're interested in the story. |

It's the problem with light novels for me. They will describe a character as wearing rags or looking ugly, only for them to look beautiful in the following page. Novels are good because they are from your idea of the description. I sometimes feel light novels are only turned into light novels until later on. Baccano was written for a competition, and some of the art contradicts the characters. Its probably the same problem American novels have with cover art directly clashing with ehat characters look like. |

That would be my suggestion. It's also probably worth mentioning that the second half of the first episode of the anime looks to be anime-original, although it could come in a later volume of the novel series. |

That was the impression I got from what I saw of the anime. Quite close to being really good but never quite able to deliver on its intentions. |

Pretty sure the 2nd half of Episode 1 is from the 2nd Volume, since that book goes back in time and shows off some of the adventures of Siesta and Kimi. |

Chidori Kaname in the Full Metal Panic! light novels is described as having black hair, yet the artist gave her blue hair for some reason, and so she's had blue hair in the manga and anime too. |
