While I enjoyed this season like all the others, it wasn't my favourite. I think I might rank it 3rd or 4th. Last season I enjoyed it a whole lot more because it tied in the idea of the music theme of the story while keeping with current trends.

This time there were some really great parts and, character focus on the side cast. I love seeing Retsuko grow, but I feel like Haida's character is just a mess. I know characters need flaws, but I don't really see him redeeming himself. So how are we supposed to be rooting for him? I feel Retsuko is better off with another guy the way the narrative is going.

I interpreted Haida's developments throughout this season as the guy thinking he finally found someone in his workplace acknowledging him for his knowledge and skills when the old guard's influence made him feel quite hopeless and insecure, while oblivious to Himuro manipulating him for his personal gain. The main conflict for Haida then became either doing the right thing to keep the company out of trouble or continuing to get that acknowledgement from Himuro. Yes, it was wrong for Haida to do Himuro's bidding spoiler[with the fraud scheme]. But when put into that sort of situation, I can't necessarily blame Haida for doing so after finally believing he found someone in his workplace who valued his knowledge and skills.

Damn, that reminds me that I've gotta watch S4, I've been so busy watching other shows I've managed to miss this so far.

This series really has a way of making you root for characters you wouldn't think otherwise: Ton being the absolute chief of them. We're only three episodes in, but when Ton spoiler[refused to fire any of his employees], my heart grew about three sizes. When I started the series, I never thought he would become a favorite. But he really has, and you can see he is trying to do his best for both his families.

James is spot-on in his review with the embarrassing cringe regarding Haida. My husband and I winced our way through the episodes with him so far. But given that season 5 has already been given the green light, I'm confident that Haida will be redeemed.

I agree about the finale being a bit rushed. I wished Himuro's character got a bit more fleshed out. He was a bit underdeveloped imo
