Other than celebrating 35 years of Saint Seiya anime, is there any other point of this?

At this point, only a full-bodied "Brotherhood"-type remake of the original has any chance of making this franchise relevant to a mainstream audience again (and therefor viable as a shonen property). Their last best shot was the "next generation" type story of Omega, but unfortunately they blew it by restricting an already limited budget further and further and by not providing the necessary merchandise adapted to their new target audience (I doubt many children or young teens have the funds to buy Myth Cloths or Figuarts).

An adaptation of Next Dimension (if it ever finishes)? That thing is already near-incomprehensible for someone like me who has seen and read both the original and all spin off media, so what chance does it have in attracting a new audience?

I'm willing to wager that's the goal of the movie, especially with Sony saying they view it as a potential franchise. Granted, we all know how that goes (hey Cowboy Bebop!) but that's the stated goal.

Their last shot was with the CG show that streamed on Netflix but due to choices made by it's head writer, all hype went out the window and for good reason.

Well, there was the Westernized CGI remake, but that wasn't very good.

Well, the series is called Knights of the Zodiac outside of Japan and the Gold Saints represent the twelve Zodiac sings while Seiya, his friends and the rest of the Bronze and Silver Saints represent constellations Laughing

Sure, you could even argue that the previous CGI film Legend Of Sanctuary was already that reboot/remake. But as long as they keep speedrunning through the original series at speeds not even a Gold Saint can keep up with, it's just going to baffle any new audience.

My own dream remake of Saint Seiya would even expand the original instead of shortening it, as even the original manga left certain arcs very underdeveloped, such as Poseidon or the second half of Hades.
