Drive seems to be picking up a bunch of sequels lately. Hopefully the quality of them (and Uzumaki) won't suffer because of it.

Wait, two tv series based on the same light novels will air at the same time?

Finally, we've been waiting for years. I just hope they won't leave us hanging for 5 years again after that.

Why go years with nothing and then have two series almost at the same time (or maybe even at the same time)? You just risk people getting fatigue and the long delay mean the previous entry will fade from previous priority.

I really don't understand this industry sometime...

I don't see from the article indicating that the two series will air at or nearly at the same time. I highly doubt that they will air in the same season. And it's not unheard of that spinoff and sequel series air one after another (I'm thinking of reincarnated as a slime) to sustain audience interest.

Not really, no. They're based on the same franchise, but the Explosion spinoff is based on, well, a spinoff series that are separate from the main novels. There's also no word on when either will air, but it's entirely likely they'll be released in different seasons. Like how the 2nd season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime aired its first cour, then The Slime Diaries spinoff came out, before the 2nd cour of S2 released after that.

There was a Kadokawa stock report from a year ago (maybe 2 years ago) that makes this whole thing make sense. The gist of it is that "franchises" as a whole matter now. Instead of making anime to sell LNs, you have Lns sell anime, which sell games, which sell more LNs, which sell more anime which then sell more games, etc etc.

Konosba (and Re:Zero) were specifically called out in that stock report, with the Konosuba gatcha game being viewed as a succesfull aspect of this strategy. I suspect this is a reason why were getting more sequels in general, not just with Konosuba.

Whether or not people get franchise fatigue remains to be seen, but if Konosuba is 10 episodes like the other seasons and if explosion is 10 to 12 episodes then there probably isnt much to be worried about. If properly spaced thats sustainable, and even if they air back to back thats still only the length of a 2 cour season.

there are several Konosuba spinoff available other than Explosions, I hope it gets popular enough so we can see more of them animated as well

If the point is to make franchise, then this is really not a good way way to go at it, better to have an anime season every 1-3 years rather than a giant 5 years gap with two anime in very quick succession.

Having the Megumin spin off in, say, 2019 would have given an easy way for people who missed the first 2 season to hop in (and potentially eventually go back to S1-2) and would have kept fan busy while S3 was being made. I just don't see any advantages with firing both at around the same time after putting the series on the back burner. And if the two aren't going to aired in close proximity, why announce both at once? Juts get one started and if it disappoint you don't have to worry about having another series already in the work.

Wooo! ::insert konosuba dancing gif here::

Hopefully they'll be able to keep going and at least finish the main novels (another 2 seasons or so I think)!

Anyone knows who owns Drive or anything about the studio?
The Uzumaki teaser looked good but you obviously can't judge a studio by a teaser and I personally enjoyed Vlad Love but I can't tell what studio Drive did since it was a collab with IG.
I want to believe in them but I still can't understand why kono suba changes studio every season.
