So I’m inferring this from the opening sentence, but just to confirm: the movie does do the manga ending?

Three things:

1. It’s just me

2. I’m actually happy the girl in question won, if mainly because she’s my type. That said, Season 2 completely glossed over her backstory that is the crux of her winning, so I had my doubts.

3. The upcoming VN has confirmed each Quint will be getting an ending, and there are series like Brothers Conflict that have different winner across different media formats, so the standard is there, I just wasn’t sure if they’d do it.

Didn’t mean to single you out alone, and if I did, I apologize. I honestly expected people to pile in this thread/review complaining about the wrong girl having won, and I’m surprised it didn’t happen here like on the rest of the interwebs.

But yes, they cut an important scene from the manga that set the stage for the winning quint (spoiler[the playing house scene with Ichika’s manager’s daughter]), and the rushing through the material of season 2 definitely didn’t help.

That being said, I knew that they were most likely going to keep the canonical ending, and was just tired of shooting down all the naysayers in other places absolutely convinced that the ending was going to change. So again, sorry for gloating in a way that made it seem like I was specifically targeting you.

Thank God for visual novels. But with that being said, is the VN written by Negi?

Got back from the movie a few hours ago... and I have to agree with Frog-kun, The Big Reveal was darn well done, but the pacing draaagggeed from that point.

The VN came out back in May but I guess MAGES doesn't care about a majority of the rest of the world because no English option. They did good with bringing Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child to the Switch and even a physical release in the West but not with the Quints. They're losing money here.

I really don't feel like the show did an adequate job of selling us on the winning quint. Like in the first season and a half she was so in the background that I genuinely forgot she was even in the running for Fuutaro's affections. And yeah in hindsight I can see some of the hints dropped that she was endgame, but she got massively overshadowed by literally everyone else having better and/or more interesting arcs and character developments. I wish I liked her more than I do.

Well I definitely think this would have been better as TV anime than a movie focusing on the final arc.

Yeah I agree the rushing during the season 2 didn't exactly help matters but if they really wanted to be thematic, they could have easily made this anime adaptation of QQ into 5 seasons if they didn't cut out a lot of material.

Well the manga might have done a better job in that regard. But to be fair thr first season and the half of season 2 was trying to establish Quintuplets characters and look onto their respective character arcs although they still could fit in some materials into possibly future seasons. But anime production committees just like to plan their own thing, its almost absurd.
