Wow, an honest-to-god satire! And it’s funny! I definitely have mixed feelings on gacha games, even as I also play one, so I’m totally buying this! (I feel like the last series with the dollar-for-yen swap was also a Tokyopop book, so maybe it’s a company mandate?)

There's more to be enjoyed if you're familiar with the particular genre(s) of game the story is poking at, but simple familiarity with idol-raising stories will also do you just fine as far as getting most of the jokes.

Anything that Rebecca Silverman tauts automatically gets my attention; and that it's also just two volumes is also a positive. But I don't follow the Idol genre ─ for me, the closest would be Macross. Would this set appeal to someone who has never watched an (anime) idol show?

Thank you! That really means a lot to me, especially with the year I've had.

I do think you'd be fine if Macross is your only idol reference. The humor is largely based on the absurdity of the situations Alice finds herself in, and a lot of the visual gags don't need much of a reference. The sight of humans squirming in gacha capsules and awful CG is pretty universal, I think.

A parody of an otome game written by someone who doesn't seemingly despise the genre? Sign me up!

This sounds like a really fun manga (and I want to see those bad CGs so bad) but I'm really hesitant to support a TokyoPop release...
