I hope this one doesn't get cancelled like the last one.

I hope it's not going to be like the Haikara-san ga tooru films... :/ Those were just so painfully bland, doing all the wrong changes to the manga (like, sure, do change things, but not like this), having a terrible sense of pace...

Also, keep Miyano Mamoru away from this one, please, please.

Only 1 movie? That's concerning considering the manga is 10 volumes long. I can't really see this turning out very well unfortunately.

Also I liked the Haikara-san ga Tooru movies, but I had no context for the manga or original anime in that case (and the second one was definitely horribly paced)

To be fair, the original Japanese announcement does not specify if the new anime is one film or more than one.

I rather see a remake series, but perhaps this movie could lead to that.

Bring it on.

Yes, yes, YES! Haikara was very disappointing and yes keep Miyano away from this pretty please Sad

So yeah, very surprised but also concerned if it is going to one movie only. I went to read the actual Japanese website. It is not clear if it will just be one film. Given the content, it won't fit. But they could try a highly truncated version by focusing on Oscar's relationship with Marie Antoinette and cut down bunch of other stuff to fit everything in. If I were them, I will shoot for multiple films.

Eh, I've always LOVED him; does he just not fit a character in this? xD

I can't understand the need for a remake of the Rose of Versailles in any form. The 70s anime is a perfect adaptation and holds up to this day. Why would you want an inferior truncated version?

Yeah, wasn't there supposed to be a film with Sanae Kobayashi as Oscar?

I'm not seeing where in the article it says it's a reboot? I don't know how the original story ends or anything but for all we know this movie could be an entirely original new story. It doesn't say anything about what this movie is going to be about yet as far as I can tell.

The anime was by no means a perfect adaptation, and had SEVERAL drawbacks with both storyboard, budget and parts of the script having to be reworked differently (even including the arguably most iconic manga scene, which was omitted by reasonable reasons).

While I do like the anime even better than the manga for what it improved upon despite that, it's rather known that it was a production hell of a project at the time.

Berubara is (for the most part) very faithful to historical fact about the life of Marie Antoinette and the events of the French Revolution, so I don't think this will tell an entirely new story since that would defeat the whole point. That said, the manga did go through a continued run from 2013 to 2018 that added new material Riyoko Ikeda wanted to include in during the original serialization but couldn't, so maybe this new project will expand on the story in some way.

Oo, quite excited for this. I imagine this will just be a sidestory adaptation as an animation test to see if there's enough interest from the younger demographics to warrant more projects getting greenlit... but I really like that visual and have some hope for it.

They weren't that bad, they just tried to cram too much content in two films. They should've just done a TV series, or at least four movies.
