This new information sheds new light on the situation. My GOAT was a fan of heroes/superheroes and actually put that into his story with Yugi transforming (henshin) into a hero (Yami Yugi), but to actually take action in a real life situation is a whole new level. He did and became what he loved. A hero. I'm still sad that Kaz has passed and this doesn't make it better because he's still gone, but at least the depressing thoughts I had some from the first report back in July is no longer in head.

Yep, and this is quite a revelation.  
Takahashi was willing to give his life saving victims from drowning is really something I didn't expect him to do. At least people now will remember for being a hero and saving lives. |

Any word on if this info hit main stream japanese media? As a service member I'm very familiar with Stars and Stripes, but it would be unfortunate if the larger Japanese public didn't know about this.

I have seen various comments in a few Reddit threads about this story on how one should leave it to the professionals to do such a save because an untrained person could make it worse. Uh, while I tend to agree, at times an "amateur" will have to play the hero. I think Kazuki-san was setting out to save that person because it was the right thing to do. I was in this situation, I personally would be willing to have my life end. Doing heroic actions like this at times mean one will decide to make what are normally foolish or unwise or unsafe decisions. Even though the military guy might have had a better chance at surviving, he too could have died.

It's tragic regardless, but I guess there's some solace in the fact that he went out trying to help someone else. Rest in Peace Takahashi-san.

As someone who almost drowned once, this sends shivers.

So it looks like Kazuki Takahashi went out helping the U.S. Army saving lives. There's no better way to leave this world. I think that the Army should give him a posthumous metal for what he did. He certainly deserves it.
