Is this planned beforehand or is it popular enough to warrant 2nd season?

Most likely the former given how the last episode ended.

Can't wait. Love this show. Super cute father/daughter show...with a lot of violence and blood.

It was kind of already announced since last week but it's good to see it confirmed.
I don't know if they intend to make further season after the second but I would very much like to see them animated spoiler[the tournament arc, awakened Fran vs Amanda was epic.]

#2 after Chainsaw Man this season, for me. Glad it's coming back with more episodes.

Really glad to see this getting another season, it's one of the best isekai shows this year.

Great news. I started watching this as some whatever to put on during dinner expecting mediocre isekai stuff, but I ended up liking it quite a bit. Not a masterpiece, but it was a fun ride.

I did here that it was one of the LN publisher's (Micro Magazine) more popular series, so it could have been planned from beforehand. Usually, 2nd seasons don't get announced so fast.

Most people probably expected this to be your typical isekai series, hell i will even bet they thought the sword would get a human form at some point and start a harem.

but no, this is more a wholesome series with a focus on a Mentor-Father/Student-Daughter relationship and it is a fun series to watch.

It wont win any major awards but it is a nice series to watch on a boring day and want something more relaxing and wholesome to watch.

That arc will most likely be Season 3 or even Season 4 material if they keep up with their current pacing. It would be a crime to not animate said arc given how pivotal it is for Fran as a character.

Actually, the way it ended I think it was the latter as the "TBC" snippet was an after-credits scene. What came before was a fitting end that would have worked in case the "green light" were received some time later (or not) and only a little work needed to add the "TBC". I think it is popular as attested by a number of people here.

A lot of people still don't fully understand the difference between cour and new season. If this was planned before ep 1 aired than it would of been labeled as 2nd cour not 2nd season, much like How SpyXFamily was said to be 1st and 2nd cour and than they announced s2 and the movie despite people thinking it that part 2 is s2.

This would mean that as you pointed out, the 2nd season of this was probably approved during the airing of said series and when they showed it good good numbers in views and promotion they approved it.
