In my playtime, the PC port of Wild Hearts ran spottily

From what I've heard, this sounds like a big understatement. Jeff Grubb on Giant Bombcast said he managed to get around 60 fps on 1080p with 3080ti (!!!). Also Skill Up said he could get around 40 fps on 1080p with a 2080ti at mid settings. If a 3080ti can just barely run the game smoothly on 1080p resolution then that's insanely bad optimization. Some folk said that the game is only running on a single CPU core which is causing the performance issues, but I dunno.

I still wish they'd continue Toukiden series instead.

I was worried it was just me having a potato of a rig (I have a 3060 but a positively ancient mother board), but the complaints of bad performance on PC are apparently universal. But from what I hear, the console ports are really smooth! Here's hoping they can patch the game.

Framerates are iffy even on a 4070Ti, though that was upscaled 4k on max. (Sorry if that sounds like bragging.) The motion blur does a lot of work to keep it looking smooth, but the longer I played the demo, the worse it got, so I'm sensing memory issues as well. I have friends in the biz who have informed me that PC dev is, in fact, hell, so it doesn't surprise me that the console versions run better.

Speaking of the demo! I got all the way up to the kingtusk fight where the demo ends. (Really, though? "Kingtusk" was the best you could do when the Japanese name means "mountain-piercer"?!?) Was going fine until I got one-shot. Eh, it happens. Ran back to the boss and had to do the entire rest of the fight without sound, though the music came back, eventually. Not the way I wanted to find out this game relies pretty heavily on sound cues for boss telegraphs. But I beat it! And then the cutscenes afterwards skipped because voices still wouldn't play. I will restart that file in six months or so when I can grab it on a Steam sale (or used at GameStop), because I'm sure as hell not going to pay full price for a game that runs like that.

As for positives, the story hook is more interesting than Monster Hunter entries that aren't World, and most importantly: the character creator is cute. It almost had me at "height slider" (I can be short!) if not for the above issues that dragged the experience down considerably.

I know there is a patch coming, but it's difficult to think that will solve the performance issues right away. When a game spends years in development and struggles that hard to run, there are bigger issues happening that probably will take multiple patches and who knows how much time to resolve. I have also heard the same about it possibly running on a single CPU core, which is kind of baffling since there is no way it got this far without that being noticed in production.

Following from what wolf10 said, a reviewer that I routinely go to tested it on different setups, including one with a 4090, and it does run better with those cards with the frame rates not dipping as low on older hardware, but it still fluctuates a lot. There is work to be done if the latest, and most expensive, hardware gets you to just ok performance.

Just to clarify:

Team Ninja worked on Nioh, not Omega Force.

They are currently about to release Wo Long this March.
