With the goofy names I sometimes get the feeling that some Japanese authors when creating names for American or English characters will choose cool sounding words (or at least cool to a Japanese ear) and then use them for the name because that's partially how Japanese names work. Most Japanese names are also words in their language so I suspect some Japanese authors think American and English names work the same way.

I just finished Tale of Outcasts anime and there's an English character in that called Snow as well. In Baccano we have characters named Isaac or Felix next to characters named Luck and Jacuzzi.

That's a good point. English (defaulting here, but it's true of most languages I speak) names do have meanings - my name means "to bind together" - but we don't use them as words anymore, if we ever did. Names like "Ruth" (pity) come closest, but it's archaic.

I'm honestly just amazed that Viz actually did the sensible thing & licensed a prior work from a mangaka who they're currently publishing another work from. Viz used to do that more often during the 00s, but more or less stopped doing it completely from the 10s-on.

Wonder why Tista (Endo) was given this treatment, but not stuff like Baoh (Araki), Level E (Togashi), Oumagadoki Zoo (Horikoshi), or Supinamarada (Noda)...

And that's pretty much a phonetic coincidence, isn't it?

It is - the meaning of the Biblical name Ruth is "friend."

I'd love to see physical manga releases for Level E and Oumagadoki Zoo! An anime series for Oumagadoki Zoo would be awesome too. Really enjoyed the Level E anime, surprised the manga was never licensed.

Well, if you do speak French, Italian, Spanish…

The point is that these titles should also be given English releases, and you know that. Hopefully Tista is actually an experiment from Viz to see if it's worth putting out "lesser" works from popular creators, and if it does well enough (obviously, Viz isn't expecting Spy x Family #s, but still) then maybe we'll see more of its ilk again.
