On one hand this is meant well and presented in a charming fashion...on the other hand it is a bit sad that some of those tips need mentioning, though maybe I am being a bit too judgmental.

I remember Konami doing the same with their Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments, they even sold branded soap to boot, which wasn't too bad either.

I cackled. It's certainly sound advice some need to pay more attention to.

This item clashes with one of the stereotypical notions I have of Japanese people: that they are highly conscious of not being smelly. Has anime been lying to me all these years? Or are idol otaku an exception to the cleanliness rule?

This is a cultural misunderstanding at work.

The bathing, the hygiene stuff is out of respect to other attendees, not because people smell. I'm 100% sure Rieri is not implying that people smell so they should bath, as this article seem to imply. I can understand why people would make that connection though. And it isn't like there are no one who smells, but it's not why she put it there.

I mean I expect my coworkers to regularly bath when they go to work, even if they don't...smell? It's like dressing to a dress code or follow civil norm for polite people when interacting with acquaintances out of work or hobby. When you go to her concert you're expect to behave within certain cultural expectations. It's no different when you leave your apartment to go to the conbini around the corner, you're also expected, say, to wear footwear and not go in your pajamas, even if you could.

To be fair, whenever a large group of people come together (especially if it is hot and indoors) it tends to become a bit smelly. If it is full on summer and you are somewhere very busy...good luck not getting stanky.

Tell that to the people that take their shoes off on the train...there's a specific instance of a tired salary man taking a nap from a few years ago that are still etched into the memory of the chemoreceptors in my nose. Crying or Very sad

The joke of "some attendants at conventions lack some kind of basic hygiene" is not a Japanese thing, as I have seen around here, too.

They spend all of their time arguing over which decks are top tier, but their body odor is bottom tier.
