Wait, what's controversial about that tweet? Twitter users are ridiculous sometimes...

Not sure what the rules are in Japanese baseball (presumably the same), but in American baseball, that's what is known as a beanball, and is of course, expressly forbidden.

Suspending a fictional video YouTuber seems overkill, unless people are taking the character's advice to heart, which seems bizarre.

1) She did this on the WBC Final with Japan's win and it's just not something you'd say
2) Nijisanji holds their own Baseball related content in the Summer, AFAIK, so saying stuff like this isn't a good idea.

Also, frankly, if your company is telling you to not do it, then don't do it...

Imagine asking a question (with no malice, due to your limited understanding of a something) and then getting "cancelled" because some people didn't like it.

Are people made of 3-ply or something?

Pure NijiBS, they are trying to be an idol agency and not Hololive either (Holo is more leniant), but a typical shady idol agency and it's why people who aren't familiar with shadier agencies thinks they are becoming Wactor even though that's not quite the case (Wactor talents have attempted suicide to just get out of the agency and trying to get out of there without killing yourself has gotten talents doxxed by Wactor themselves). Nijisanji is not seiso and shouldn't be, grow a spine managers.

I think what people are missing is some additional context. From their statement the suspension sounds like its the latest in a series of issues over the last several months. Not much potentially different than what happened with Zaion from EN a few weeks ago. I'd have sympathy, but this is also a company that has done huge business with Baseball in Japan and the fact that she did this during the most watched/tweeted sporting event of the year (lets put it this way- over 250 million live watchers worldwide, over double what the super bowl got), and the tweet was pushed in front of millions of people, the suspension is as much protecting the talent from herself and a lot of angry people.

Before you complain about a talent getting suspended/fired, you should understand that it takes a lot for them to get to that point. Noir from Holostars said he absolutely deserved his as he was [expletive] up a lot behind the scenes. Zaion had multiple breaches of contract and had been suspended once before her suspension/termination and was only active as a talent for niji for 7 weeks.

Yes, exactly. I wish people would understand that they are working for a company and if they wanted that sort of freedom to make such remarks and incite that then you're better off indie. Those warnings are in place by your managers to help you and if you don't heed them, then they'll have to take action. They are a business with sponsorships on the line after all and the timing makes this blatant.

Am I missing some cultural context here or something? "can you throw the ball at people" seems like a very mild joke and not even off-color. Plus her character is a sadist? I don't understand why people are talking about it like she made the equivalent of a 9/11 joke or something.

I elaborated a bit in my post above, but the simple explanation is that Gundo made the joke while NijiJP was doing watchalongs of the game, which was also viewed by over 250 million people worldwide. NijiJP has a big thing with Japanese Baseball, to the point where they have an official partnership with Koshien. And she has been a participant in a few of their baseball programs over the last few years.

On the other side of it, it wasn't just the baseball tweet that put her on suspension, their statement mentions other incidents and warnings. You dont get suspended for one stupid tweet, no matter what the other guys in this thread are saying. It's a culmination of warnings and backstage discussions and the fact that she stepped on a very public landmine of her own doing.

Yeah, because Gundou did the contraty of what you're describing. She actually has knowledge about baseball, using references about players when streaming "surpasing" (Hirumitsu) Ochiai, stating one of her favorite mangas during childhood was about baseball "Mr Fullswing". Also the problem with her tweet is that is a reference about what happen in the match between South Korea and Japan, where the korean pitchers tried to hit Ohtani Shohei and then (successfully) Lars Nootbaar with the intention to prevent the gap in the scoreboard increased.
Then you had all the Nijisanji Koshien that is a big event for the company (the last year only the final reached more than 3 million views).
Sounds dumb, but the incident is not that "innocent" like it sounds.

Things are not looking great for Nijisanji when Mirei's suspension happened weeks after Zaion's contract termination.

Nijisanji's not a virtual idol group to begin with despite having talents that will never go out of place in one.

Also, the folks at Anycolor are not known to have doxxed their own talents like Wactor's infamously known to do to some of theirs.

Remember when Vegeta beaned Yamacha with a baseball in Dragon Ball Super and nobody got butt-hurt about it?

Forget months, it's YEARS. Gundou is easily one of the most controversial vtuber in Japan, she always placed high in top 5 most hated vtuber since 2019 (the year she debuted). Her making controversial statement and get flamed for it isn't new, be it political or sex related. At this point, her abrasive personality is both her selling point and anti magnet. Her suspension is something that people see it coming, even in Japan a lot of people just think "oh, she finally stepped into an actual landmine, huh." The only really surprising thing about her suspension is the topic that trip her is baseball instead of something like tax evasion or bad political take (like actual politics).

For people saying Anycolor didn't protect her, Anycolor has delivered multiple slander & defamation lawsuit to protect her to the point people accusing both of them for abusing the law and endangering their free speech (mostly just anti shit). Also, this is Gundou's FIRST suspension in 4 years of her career, after a bunch of dramas.

Holo's most controversial people are pretty tame compared to her. Including Coco, even Coco was suspended after the Taiwan fiasco.

Yeah, this context is really important: it's not just her asking a weird question, it's one in a long line of gaffs she's been tossing out that reflect really badly on her parent company.

There are a lot of times where these vtuber idol agencies overreact and over-restrict their talent. But this doesn't seem to be one of them. Some folks really, really need a tight leash on them if they're ever going to be public figures because they'll just shove their foot in their mouth.
