I already own the DVD release so this isn't for me. However, if in the future, there was ever a Kickstarter for any of the Macross franchise that hasn't been released in North America yet, I'd definitely support that.

It was a bit of a disappointment back in the day but it’s not as if it doesn’t have an audience. During the Macross Worldwide announcement/presentation when they were going over the history of Macross I thought it would’ve been omitted but I’m kinda glad they went and included it.

I always loved Macross II and it was my first exposure to Macross beyond Robotech back in the day. I still have my ye olde Manga DVD but I'm glad to see it getting a new HD release and great to see Animeigo putting it out because they handled the home video release of the original Macross in the olden times. Animeigo also recently announced the English dub cast for Dirty Pair TV so I assume we'll be hearing about that soon.

It was announced at Anime Expo last year that a few different companies had licensed the various sequel entries. Nozomi Entertainment (formerly of Rightstuf) have Delta, Frontier, and 7. Anime Limited have Plus. AnimEigo have II.

Sweet. I knew Nozomi had 7, but I didn't realize they also had Delta and Frontier.

And this is probably what the holdup is, because they announced this license and then were acquired by the Sony/Funimation/Crunchyroll blob a month later. Not even sure if they still exist or just got folded into the rest of that collective.
Still kind of ironic if what is generally regarded as the worst entry in the franchise overall is all we end up getting a decent release for. But it would also be pretty much par for the course for how poorly Macross has been treated for decades.

That's the way it's always been. Big West is the copyright holder and main sponsor of Macross, but they've always relied on other companies to distribute the actual physical releases of Macross even inside Japan.

Absolutely nothing from any of the Macross announcements last year has really happened, beyond this announcement & some early announcements of theatrical showing for Macross Plus by Anime Limited. These deals were likely just finalized right before they were all announced at AX last year, so I imagine none of them had any work done on them at all, and none of the companies involved probably even got any materials yet.
Also, Nozomi just released Zoku Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei this past April, & is still working on the Dirty Pair TV dub, so the company is still around. While they were part of the Right Stuf purchase, I imagine Sony/Crunchyroll will continue to keep Nozomi around as a boutique label to some extent, even if only to release what's already currently licensed & being worked on by the company (which right now would be Zetsubou, Dirty Pair, & Macross).

Ok, so that would expain the delays but, did that extend to streaming or was it only ever physical releases limited to the counties the licenses holder are based in?

The initial announcements didn't mention streaming, and were mostly focused on eventual home video releases, but they also didn't say anything about streaming not being part of the deal. It's just that getting material ready to stream is also a time-consuming, often slow process - especially for series that are 26-50 episodes long, have songs that need to be subtitled, etc.
