This series is trying to highlight the negative side of this industry and yet these trolls still come out to harass them and still show how the system is bad,

Some people are just beyond sanity i swear.

You know despite being a wrestling fan I never realized the Hana Kimura connection until now. I think it was already in somewhat bad taste to riff on it in the show since it still feels too soon, but how the fudge are supposed fans of the show sleeping at night after harrassing the real family even more after seeing the Oshi no Ko episodes dealing with that? Seemed to me like the series was stating in no uncertain terms that you're a terrible person for doing that sott of thing.

Willfully missing the point of the anime’s story. Bunch of entitled weird otaku with zero empathy.

Look no further than the comment section here on ANN after the article was posted about the original comments by the mother. Today's culture in general, parts of many fandoms specifically, have a cognitive dissonance whereby "your" failure to love the object of their obsession makes you reprehensible and worthy of vitriol and scorn, and the failure of their obsession to embrace them as they would like simultaneously makes them worthy of vitriol and scorn.

They are who the show calls out, but the unfortunate futility of the message the show is hoping to convey is that for many of those people they are just never going to see it in themselves unless personally confronted. Which the show also noted - that even once the "controversy" blew over there would be some that would never forget, never understand, and still repeat the same terrible comments/actions.

In a sad "serpent eating its own tail" symmetry, this is exactly why something like episode 6 can stir the feelings that the mother had in the first place - this attempt to strike realism as closely as possible to deliver the message has shockwaves all around.

Welcome to the world. You’ll never be rid of jerks. Shows are just entertainment at the end of the day and you can’t expect them to truly change most people. Yes they watch the show but the lessons don’t stay in their heads or they don’t care, it’s just something to pass the time for them and it doesn’t go any deeper than that. They’ll still be jerks and trolls if they want to.

It sucks, but that’s reality. Expecting this show to actually change people or make them reconsider their actions is pretty naive. Especially since a lot of people don’t like to be preached to anyway and do things just to spite the lesson “learned”.

That’s why I say it’s worthless to try and change people, especially online. Work on yourself by not letting *unstoppable* toxicity bother you. That’s the only way.

Unfortunately, I don't think the staff or the author making a comment on the situation would help anything - I think the episode itself was well-handled, but Kimura has a right to criticize it if she wants. But making a comment on it would just bring more attention to the situation, which'd result in even more back and forth from people either mad that something they like was criticized or eager to hate on the show itself when that wasn't even Kimura's point (which, in turn, would feed the former group even more.)

I think the best solution would be to contact Kimura in private and discuss things, but for all we know, they already have. I hope they have, anyway.

Kinda feel there's a difference between criticizing people for unwarrented reasons like being in a reality TV show and pushing back against bullies themselves lobbying to try to get you taken off the air. Also, as a general rule of thumb, if the BPO is backing your side then you might want to question being on that side to begin with. They're not great people to have on your side.

The people you're describing are detached from reality. They don't see themselves as the kind of terrible people that Oshi no Ko was describing in those episodes even as they go out and do the exact same terrible acts.

I imagine there are also some who just simply don't care. They believe themselves to be removed from the consequences so they just say whatever they want.

Only one issue, BPO can't control fans (nor can the studio or TV networks); they kind of jumped into the wrong department.

It sounds like the complainant is asking if the show is going to show any accountability for creating a situation that caused Kimura's family to be attacked online. I think that's a fair question to ask, albeit one that doesn't have a simple answer.

I think Kimura's family isn't wrong to be upset, but "Ripped From The Headlines" stories are not new, and Hana's story is sadly not wholly unique. I think we can all agree that the people who are attacking Kimura's family are out of line, but that's the easy part of the conversation.

If that's really the case, then everyone would have killed each other by now. I think throwing pessimistic comments is just as useless, especially if said harassers were a vocal minority.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Regardless of if the family is actually being harassed, if their issue is with the things portrayed, it's obvious they're only trying to get a piece of the pie from it, given that they had plenty of time to make issue of it when the manga showed this stuff three years ago.

Furthermore, it's well-known that Oshi no Ko is a work that deliberately portrays the darker side of the entertainment industry.

At no point did the mother ask for the show to be taken off the air, suggest that it should be pulled, or call for anyone to get fired. You've made up a person to justify who is harassing her.

Quote:
Kimura states her wish to find a sort of middle ground where the truth is shared, but the victims are likewise respected. “I don't mean to blame the author or any specific individual. I just wonder if there was no one who gave it the proper consideration before releasing it out into the world. That's what makes me sad. Because it raises important issues, I would like to support a work like Oshi no Ko. However, I don't think it needs to be done in a way that makes people who have actually been victimized on social media suffer when they see it.”

Tell me that you aren't a worthwhile person without telling me that you aren't a worthwhile person. The lack of awareness necessary to unironically cry about "sensitivity" and "cancel culture" when defending hate campaigns against people because they hurt your feelings by criticizing a show you like is honestly impressive in a pathetic sort of way.
