I'm not really feeling it.

It looks like, as someone described, both expensive yet really fake and cheap at the same time. Which is how I felt about Netflix Bebop

Please be good.

I'm not dismayed but I'm not impressed either. Buggy looks cool I guess.

They should have gone for more goofy approach and different color palette. Also it was really noticeable that they shooting parts of it in Italy, a few CGI towers won't hide that.

I swear every show looks and sounds the same to me these days. Dark lighting and moody atmosphere, lame self-aware MCU dialog (coming from Luffy of all people no less), and trying to hype everything up with big orchestral music like it's the biggest epic story ever told.

I don't know if it'll be as bad as Cowboy Bebop but it looks about what I expected it to be. And yeah, the Gomu Gomu CGI was bad, but it only showed up once. The other fight scene just had Luffy fighting normally so I guess they'll use it sparingly.

Eh, as far as the trailer shows, I guess it's alright.

Why do people act like that kind of dialogue only exists in the MCU? So random.

Over the last few years I've tried to watch One Piece and I got up to around episode 90 or so - where Chopper joined the crew - and for whatever reason the series just doesn't hook me.

I feel like it could be a pacing issue and the fact it's a product of it's time but I don't seem to have as much of an issue with other popular anime that came out around the same time. Such as Bleach and Naruto. I revisited Bleach recently and still enjoyed it.

If this live action adaptation is reasonably faithful but also streamlines the story maybe some of the pacing issues I have will fall away and I'll actually enjoy this series more than the anime.

The acting seems kinda dull. Luffy sounds more like another reboot of Spiderman who has no control over anything especially his nakama.

Because One Piece very cartoony and animated both in manga and anime, its not something just fits with live action.

Heck they still haven't succeed in making good live action version of Disney movies, let alone One Piece.

I think it's kind of a meme at this point to call it that, but also MCU kind of dominated American movies for the longest time and became synonymous with movies in general and setting the tone for a lot of modern writing styles.

It's honestly a dumb thing to say because that type of dialogue has existed long before the MCU was even a thing. It was just basically called "buddy cop movie" dialogue.

I guess it just took the MCU for them to even notice something that's been a common writing trope for decades.

The CGI is bad and it feels a little lacking in colour but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting,

It looks decent. I think the sets look really fantastic, and most of the characters look good, I don’t like the way they do Nami’s hair though. I’m hoping that some of the dialogue from Luffy is just for the trailer because it feels a bit off. All of the dialogue, when he’s interacting with the other characters, is good, but most of the voice-over lines just don’t work. I’m liking how Ussop and Sanji look though. Still not sure about the special effects, I think they need some more work the creature CGI is fine but it's really the stretching stuff I'm not sure about. This has allayed some of my fears, as it looks like it's definitely going to be a faithful adaptation, but has made me worried about other stuff.
