I've kept up with the JP releases of Gou's manga, and for those curious as to whether this'll have better payoff than the anime - eh, sorta. Yes in some ways, no in others

I'm still not a fan

I was so disappointed with the way that the sequel series concluded that there is no way I’d touch this manga.

Yeah, I don't agree with "Tokyo Mew Mew New needed to happen."
It really really DIDN'T.
Because it was terrible compared to the original show. Everything was a huge downgrade, from the designs to the music to the writing to even the voice acting.

I can pretty much say the same thing about Higurashi Gou...at least for the anime version....although I DID find it more entertaining than Mew New. Lol

Meguri (the manga's version of Sotsu), takes the story in a different direction in comparison to the anime. Whether or not it's an improvement I can't say for myself, but do with that info what you will.

Keeping up to date with Meguri, the direction it's taking is at least promising compared to the anime. I'm willing to withhold all official judgement until the manga finishes its run, just like I was willing to not completely give up on this particular Higurashi series despite how disappointing the anime turned out until after I read the manga version. Afterwards, if I end up pretending this doesn't exist and just focus on classic Higurashi then I will, but we'll see.

Honestly I found the Gou anime pretty interesting after it got past the "recap but different" parts, and I think Sotsu would have been much better if I didn't need to sit through the same stuff AGAIN. Maybe that means I should read Meguri,

Imho gou was necessary.

There was always then100 vs 10k years plothole, aa well as a certain couple relationship feeling forced on the general meta. That being sais the anime execution left a lot.tp be desired in sotsu.

So, if you dont cate about the plothole and the meta, higurashi was already perfect and the interquel feels unnecessary, bit of you do, it is a great but not so well executed adition. When they cry has always been its best in manga form, so i am going to give this a chance
