Any word on Macross Plus the anime? If 2 is the only Macross confirmed, there are gonna be a lot of disappointed fans.

ANN left that release window out of the article until we could confirm the wording with Bigwest and update the article accordingly. (The wording of the text in the Tweet above is slightly different from its image, and the panel's verbal announcement and slide image also differed slightly.)

The Macross Plus: Movie Edition Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Disc is coming to North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zeland in late 2023 or early 2024.

For extra clarification, the head of Anime Limited later added via a tweet that the Ultimate Edition will contain both the movie & OVA versions of Macross Plus, but said to wait for more details "in due course". This is seemingly the first time Anime Limited has confirmed that they also have the rights to the OVA, since they've only ever specifically stated the movie before.

Now the question is: what will the dub audio end up being for episode 4 of Macross Plus?

Will it be the Manga Entertainment dub audio, which keeps cast continuity with the other 3 episodes, but replaces all the music with cues from the first 3 episodes (with the exception of Sharon's songs) and replaces all of the SFX with generic stock SFX, because the dodgy nature of the license meant they were not able to use a proper clean M&E track to mix the dub for episode 4?

Will it be the Bandai Visual and Big West dub audio, which they produced on their own in order to have some kind of English audio for all 4 episodes, and has a completely different cast (featuring David Hayter!) while using the real music and SFX?

Or, even though this may be impractical if not straight up impossible, for technical reasons (i.e. lack of master tapes, audio stems, etc., so they'd have to strip the vocals out of an existing, low-quality source) somehow they are able to produce a new dub mix that includes the Manga vocals and the real M&E?

I suppose the best case we can hope for is that both episode 4 dubs are included as-is. My fear is that Big West might require the use of their episode 4 dub while specifically denying the inclusion of the Manga dub.

That issue aside, I hope Anime Limited gets to produce their own subtitles for the movie edition, since Manga's were fine but not amazing, and Bandai Visual's/Big West's were hot garbage.

Great news, thank you for that clarification.

As much as I liked a few performances in the dub (mostly Epcar as Guld), others not so much (Myung's VA was... rough). I wouldn't mind if they just went ahead and redubbed Macross Plus altogether (though would still like past dubs available on the same set).

So happy that finally the ball is rolling with Macross releases. It’s been a
While since they announced that there had been found a solution with HG. Now I hope we get some news soon about Frontier and most of all 7. Bomba!

Somehow a complete redub didn't occur to me. I'd be curious to hear one too for sure. But yeah, in that case it'd still be nice to have the Manga dub and the Big West episode 4 dub included as well for the sake of completeness.

I do enjoy the Manga dub overall, but I'm very cognizant of the fact that a big reason is simply nostalgia, plus having listened to it so many times. Objectively it's not a *bad* dub but it is rough around the edges. And I agree that Myung's VA is... well it's definitely *a* choice, casting-wise. Nothing against the VA herself.

I wonder how Harmony Gold's embargo claims over the original Macross characters will effect the global release of this new Macross game since I see several OG characters in that trailer.
