Harmony Gold can't screw that up at least...

Have long thought that Plus was one of the (if not the) best installments in the whole franchise - and one of the most approachable to those who aren't franchise or even anime fans - so I'll likely pick up this release.

And am I mistaken, or was this the first anime to bring up the concept of a purely virtual idol?

I don't disagree but I feel like it has what I call the "Fate/Zero" problem. It's the best because it's so different, so new fans will probably be disappointed by whatever they watch in the franchise afterwards, though I don't think you can go wrong with Do You Remember Love.

I agree. As a stand-alone addition to the franchise it could actually be its own thing if not for the final setting/venue, and if you had never seen Macross before you wouldn't know the difference.

I'm assuming they're including the English dub for the OVA, which I also felt was one of the best of its era. In any case, this is an insta-buy.

Macross Plus is one of my favorite anime. Brilliant work by Keiko Nobumoto (RIP) and Shinichiro Watanabe, with a phenomenal Yoko Kanno (and others) OST. I'll be pre-ordering the release as soon as its available.

Megazone 23 had one, but I can’t remember if it was an AI, or just controlled remotely.

Megazone 23’s first two parts establish she’s an AI (and part of the conflict is people trying to reprogram her) but then Part 3 introduced the actual woman the AI was based on, so I’m going to say “yes”.

Anyhoo, they confirmed that the release will have both the movie and OVA.

I think both Plus and Zero are good entry point to the franchise, I hope Zero will get some kind of release too.

Glad to see Macross Plus & Macross II getting some BluRay love. Now all we need is for Nozomi/Right Stuff to announce their release schedule for Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta; those are the titles I'm really waiting for.

I'm surprised Nozomi didn't pick that up, they got the two titles that came before and after it, 7 and Frontier, but left that out.

Doesn’t Zero have Roy in a supporting role? That unfortunately runs afoul of Harmony Gold’s agreement where they get a say if characters from the original Macross are used.

And why I’m hoping the Sunrise Macross series is a straight reboot or AU, so we don’t have to deal with them anymore.

That's clearly not an issue for 7, which features multiple characters from the original/DYRL. Big West themselves have been very clear that they have control of everything produced for Macross II onwards, including Zero.

HG's agreement is that anything NEW for Macross can't use the SDF cast, with everything prior to the agreement (i.e. everything Macross, post-SDF, that had existed up to this point, essentially) being grandfathered in, so as to not create problems for Big West.

Alright, one of my most favorite anime of all time ever! Gotta double dip for that!

True! I did grow up watching Robotech, but I only love Plus and Zero, and didn't dig anything else. It'd be cool if they balanced out projects like that more. Gundam has been good like that. Everyone gets what they want.

I'm glad the OVAs are being included and I hope this will also include the dub which featured the iconic Bryan Cranston.
