Kind of figured this would happen. From what I've heard, streaming services need the materials further ahead than broadcast networks, so they were probably down to the wire on that episode. If a production is cutting it that close, then it's bound to impact later episodes.

Sigh, I figured that this would happen, but it still sucks.

Clearly, the production committee needs to create an exploitive workplace like the one Akira worked for to drive the animators even harder and turn them into emotionally and spiritually dead zombies so that we viewers can get our episodes on time! Heh.

Only four episodes in and we already had a 1-day delay for west audiences and now a week delay, how bad really is the production status?

I just pray that we are not getting a Nier like delay eventually.

I'm assuming this special program they are talking about is gonna be a recap episode, right? If so, then at the very least, I found out beforehand. It would honestly kinda suck if I tune in excited to watch a new episode, not knowing it was gonna be recap.

Can't say I'm surprised at this point.

Was clear this was going to happen after how many animation directors the first episode had.

The two incidents you just listed are directly connected. The delay last week was because they finished that episode past the wire to get it out to streaming services in time, which meant they had less time to work on this week's episode. This isn't really evidence of how bad a production is going, so much as it is the consequence of one week's production being off. Whether or not they'll manage to get things back on track after this delay will show how bad the production really is.

How ironic that this anime is affected by bad management.
The manga itself loses tons of steam after 2 or so volumes. The anime was always destined to not live up to the hype, delays will just add an extra step. A true decomposing zombie. Cool at first but a bit stinky after a few weeks.

If the first episode having a boatload of animation directors, and the second and third episodes having to be done by SHAFT back to back are any indication, probably not. Streaming is unforgiving regarding its production schedules, and the director was responsible for Komi's adaption, itself rife with production issues. If anything, this is just the beginning. And with the manga becoming underwhelming later on, this series is definitely going to lose any hype it could have had.

Shaft did not do any work for any episode 2. Animation, background, compositing, coloring... nothing.

having 4 animation directors for the first episode doesn't mean it was suffering really but from the following episodes it was since shaft helping them out does shows how much bug films ready to do it fully.
