Not too surprising to see prices go up (though not be that much), but it's crazy that the tier with the worst value (Premium) is going up the most.

Not sure what they're thinking, but they have not put out enough classic games to justify the old price, let alone this new one.

A 33% increase across the board with no added benefits? Yeah, I'm calling total bullshit on this one.

Yeah I won't renew my sub, it was already expensive. If they included Crunchyroll for Premium I might consider but I wouldn't count on that.

Whoa, that was quick! Only took them a year to raise prices (for comparison, Game Pass held off for 6 long years) and with only a week's heads-up. If only there's an equivalent Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate conversion trick here too to save much moolah

And at a time when the free PS Plus games for September 2023 have not been received well at all. Plus, it's happening the very same day that Xbox is releasing Starfield on Game Pass (not to mention the stacked GP lineup upcoming weeks)

They should've done this on a better date and on a better month of PS Plus games. Who the heck Sony exec picked this timing?! Shocked

For real. The explanation given was about "continuing to provide quality service and value-added benefits" so in other words, charge more just because they can.

Things like charging the same price when they did things like drop Vita games from the monthly PS+ games got a pass because a lot of people didn't use that anyway. But this is just straight up charging a lot more for what you already have.

Some of the news coverage around this was pretty telling. Subscription numbers plateaued, but subscription revenue increased with customers switching to the higher tiers. Those tiers at least offered something for the added price, but this is right in line with other subscriptions simply charging more to squeeze the existing customers because they aren't attracting enough new ones.

My question now is whether they will stick with it, or do the ol' "We heard you so we're only raising prices by X%" Companies love to use the that as a way to make something seem like it isn't as bad as it could have been. On the other hand, Sony has been making some very bone-headed moves lately, so I'm not convinced they won't stick with it no matter what.

Remember, vote with your wallet! This is awful, especially with all the inflation going on. Complete greed on Sony's end. I'm not renewing either.

Also for those that might not know or forgot, most F2P games do not need a PS Plus account to use. Overwatch, Fortnite, Genshin, Warframe, POE etc.

Well, inflation is likely the main reason it is going up without any additional incentives. Maintaining a similar worth on the revenue generated demands it increase, least stocks fall, plus they must also factor in people leaving that needs to be made up, as well as their own rising costs behind the scenes as the money they have to spend is also devalued.

The blame for all this falls on federal politicians, spending and borrowing money while destroying economic efficiency with stupid regulations and overtaxing, indebting you to repay their loans while screwing you with devalued savings and increased costs.

I renewed for a year during a sale before the price increase but this is a bad look. It’s made worse by their free games for September being the critically reviled Saint’s Row remake. If you could at least justify the increase by having higher value titles for free with the service that would be one thing but they couldn’t even do that.

Oh boy!!! Well, this was to be expected. I'm sorry for any PS Plus users that now have to endure with this price increase.

Uh, sure. That is at least the narrative that companies have been going with all while they make record profits. It's also pretty unlikely that any costs that Sony has in running PS+ jumped by 33%.

I haven't owned a PlayStation console since PS4. I mostly play on PC these days so this doesn't affect me but they could at least offer some bonus stuff like Nintendo did with their new tier.

And this price hike is global, not just one country (even deflation-plagued Japan)

It's also funny how online multiplayer cost has now flipped. Back in the day, ya had to pay for Xbox Live Gold for multiplayer, while PSN was free. Then Sony started charging for PSN multiplayer too. And now, the new Game Pass Core tier's 12-month option ($60) will be $20 cheaper than its closest PS Plus alternative, the Essential tier ($80). So ya be paying more just to play online multiplayer on PS, when it used to be the free one

You either do and get the same complaints that the expansion pak has gotten Nintendo.

Or you don’t and people complain about them not given consumers enough incentive to spend on this.

I was already on the fence about renewing since I don't really play any of the free games very often. I don't play multiplayer very often. I feel like they've kind of forced my hand to stop subbing with the price hike. Which is fine. If there's a good holiday deal, maybe I'll get it again...but I kind of doubt it.
