It’s a long shot but I wonder if we’re gonna get a third season of the anime!

I hope so, but AFAIK the staff that produced the first two seasons left SHAFT, so I hope they can reach an agreement to continue their production with them, with another studio if necessary. At least the fear of running out of material will not be a concern if the manga finishes in one or two more years.

Honestly I tuned out of the shogi stuff a long time ago. I just skim chapters to see if there are any scenes of spoiler[Rei and Hina being a couple.]

The bit about Akari and spoiler[who she'll end up with] is also interesting.

Regarding Akari, is it still a competition between spoiler[Reis teacher and one of his friend shougi players (forgot his name, the one with a stomach issues, who represents his rural town)]?

Yes and no? Kenjiro Okada directed RWBY Ice Queendom last year at it, so his connections with the studio are there, though he already has his hands full with the new Black Butler anime at CloverWorks, so who knows.

On the othe hand, Keisuke Matsunaga was the animation producer for both seasons, yet he left and now works for David Production with Fire Force, and most likely currently with Undead Unluck as well.

Yeah, this has been treading water for a while now, so i am more than happy to see it come to an end. At some point the surrealist shogi art seemed to just turn into a way to fill out chapters rather than make them interesting.

Cool! It would be nice if the anime came back to cover the rest of the story.

I kinda lost interest in following this series even though I started with the manga then finished the 2 seasons of the anime. Once they were mostly done with Rei's depression arc, the series kinda lost me with it focusing more on the shogi stuff which I'm not that fond of tbh. I guess i was kinda interested with what the series is doing with Rei's white-haired identical twin. Did he have any sort of focus or character arc?

Umino has been in cruise control with the manga for the past 2-3 years; in order for it to end properly,(IMO), she needs to do these things....

spoiler[Have Rei beat Souya in a major tournament]
spoiler[Have Akari resolve her man trust issues(this doesn't mean her being in a relationship with either Hayashida or Shimada)]
spoiler[Have Rei and Hina cement their relationship(getting married probably means a time skip, not sure if Umino will do this)]
spoiler[Have some closure with Kyouko; there's been nothing about her in five years of chapters.]
spoiler[Get some resolution with Nikaido's health issues.]
