My original motivation a few years ago for actually taking Japanese seriously was to find a way to play the Trails games as they came out (and to play those not yet properly localized), but it feels like they've really accelerated the localization announcements since then Laughing

Legitimately didn't think this was going to come until Late 2024 so this was a big surprise

I was completely prepared that it was going to take another 2 years after Reverie to get this. Getting it so quickly is nice. Very nice.

I need to get my skates on regarding these Trails games. Finished CS1and got through most of CS2 before realizing there was a specific order to playing these games. Bought the Sky trilogy in Steam, but haven't gotten around to playing them. Also have physical copies of CS3, CS4, Zero, Azure, and Reverie on my shelf that I have not touched. One day, I WILL have the time to play through them Crying or Very sad

Same here, Im at the beginning of CS3 but collected each limited edition past that. I even got Kuro 1 and 2 Limited edition when it first came out. Of course I, will do the same with the ENG ver, but man these are long games.

I found CS3 and 4 a bit of a slog, but Reverie was an absolute joy.

Tbh, you can finish off the Cold Steel arc before starting the other arcs. Other than references to past games that are cool tidbits for older players, you aren't missing much plot-wise or for the characters that matter. Each arc is fairly self-contained, story-wise.

If you really want to, you could also skip the other arcs too. Might miss some references, general picture tidbits, but you will be able to understand what's going in your current game because the it explains what's relevant for the characters and for you.

Also, while they are important for the lore, Trails in the Sky 3rd and Reverie work more like epilogues that explain a bit about what's going on with the different characters of the cast, does some foreboding and fills in some voids/backstories/stuff that couldn't be explained before, so you can actually skip those if you only care for the 'main story' part.

I've gotten about halfway through Sky 1, and that's it. It's wound up on the back burner like so many other JRPGs I've started, a list that presently includes Final Fantasy X-2 and Tales of Symphonia as well. (It doesn't help that apparently it takes some fiddling to get it working right on the Steam Deck, and it's hard to justify the effort with all the other options I have.)

Man I wish that XSEED would put the Cold Steel I and II on the Switch in the West.

And Sky. It would be nice to get the series on more platforms. Sucks that it's tied to Xseed, who have proven themselves to be the worst after losing the localization rights of the Falcom series.

I'm so happy these games seem to be taking off in the west and we're getting them much faster. I enjoyed Reverie, but I missed the more traditional community sidequest into dungeon gameplay flow you get in most Trails games so I'm really excited for the next chapter.
