I dropped this when they introduced the scantily clad dragon child, but apparently this series is even more forgettable than I realized. I honestly don't remember it being a comedy! If you made me swear on what it was about, I'd have said it was about a Hero trying to be a regular guy in a Hero school without giving away his identity as an already accomplished Hero, sort of another iteration of slice of magic school life, with some mild comic relief now and then. I guess when I wrote it off, I basically erased it from my memory! Laughing Good to know I didn't continue to waste my time on it.

I actually thought the show was a lot of fun. They jam-packed a lot of content into each episode but it felt like everyone involved (writing, animation, voices) was enjoying the heck out of it.

It reminded me a lot of Iceblade Sorcerer but more tongue-in-cheek and with better production values.

That actually sounds like a perfect premise for comedy.

Am I wrong in thinking that this type of show would have worked better 5 or even 10 years ago? After three episodes I kind of let watching it lapse, but the way the characters were being introduced and the ecchi humour used made it seem like a holdover from when that kind of stuff was more common. Or maybe it's just my tastes that have changed since then?

I dunno, I just kind of feel like it would have been more successful or talked about in the early 2010s when we saw stuff like Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero, Bladedance of Elementalers, Campione, or Demon King Daimao.

No, I think you’re more or less on point with this show working better if it was made earlier. The creator of this series also created GJ Club, a show that aired in 2013 and IIRC had similar inclinations towards a type of structure and comedy that was more prevalent back then than it is now. Only major difference between the two was GJ Club was set in modern day Japan and no supernatural stuff whatsoever as opposed to Classroom for Heroes.

i also found it interesting. for one thing, the reviewer could have easily dismissed it as a trash harem ala tenpura, but luckily it is not a harem at the slightest.

highly doubt it. like those series, this one was clearly meant to be an "advertisement to promote its source material" type of series like a rouge hero and the others so it would have gotten the same attention and gotten the same rebuke from the anti ecchi community!

I wouldn't say it's not a Harem since we've got a bunch of girls and it feels like the main ones do have some semblance of feelings or attraction to Blade, it just isn't as focused on. We even got a kiss.

Earnest was definitely crushing hard on him.

its only two people (earnest & sophie) that mainly have a crush on blade.

also, earnest was a given since she is the tsundere of the series and sophie being the quiet type. the rest of the other girls sees him as a friend (excluding maria's demon lord split persona) so yea, its misleading as hell and i wouldnt blame people for thinking that its a harem series, but it is definitely not a harem thats for sure

i wouldnt completely dismiss it for it is not as bad as you think. at least the source materials are not that bad for i have read its light novel. the problem with this anime adaptation is just like with another series "The Great Cleric" , the anime production committees have left out far too many things from the source materials & both series were clearly rushed!

i recomnend reading the light ñovels for it is far better than its anime format!
