Quick analysis time! Just focused on the added scene in the trailer.
spoiler[First of all, Madoka's outfit itself has a lock on it, which immediately invokes the cage that Akuma Homura has her in, so this is probably exclusively the outfit for split Madoka. Anyway, the trailer starts with the sound of a drop of water and a glimpse inside a ripple of light, which to me feels like it's giving us a metaphorical window into Akuma Homura's universal "cage". The drop/ripple also reminds me of the drops/ripples in both the original TV series opening (which shows the original Madoka holding Amy, the cat) and the Rebellion opening (the ripples were created by Ultimate Madoka and opened a glimpse into Homura's labyrinth). I assume this is, again, Ultimate Madoka's doing... however... These beams that extend outward have Kyubey eyes in them. Usually a sign that the Kyubey are observing something, which I'll get into in a short bit. Madoka tears up gold tears, again, leading me to consider that split Madoka still has a hidden connection to Ultimate Madoka and is calling out to her. She may awaken again, considering the flash of light we see where her eyes turn gold! The golden tears drift off toward the screen... ...And then we zoom out to what appeared to be a universe outside Homura's caged universe, returning us outside the cage where we started, looking in, and we see Kyubey's eyes again, outside the caged universe... meaning Kyubey may exist further out into space than we thought. It makes sense, considering Kyubey is aware of the heat death universe expansion and its progress, so they must also exist where they can directly observe it in real time, yes? aka. Outside the universe. It makes me wonder, based on the initial imagery, if Ultimate Madoka may employ Kyubey's help to get contact on the inside through their hive mind connections. Rebellion's trailers were very misleading with its imagery and gave us a lot of things that invoked negativity (ie. Charlotte lunging at the screen with her mouth which turned out to just be part of a fun cake scene, Mami holding Charlotte which turned out to be a happy scene, Sayaka stabbing her heart which just turned out to be a funky way to summon her witch, and Homura snapping her soul gem in her mouth which turned out to be her changing it into her dark orb). I think this one could potentially be doing the same by playing into the fanbase's universal hatred of the Kyubey, making us suspicious of something that might turn out to be an unlikely partnership for good... maybe. I'm not going to bet money on it, but it's a thought. Lol] |

I wonder if it's safe to watch this without knowing anything about Magia Record?
Also, for several minutes, I actually forgot Kalafina has disbanded. So hyped! |

As long as you've watched the original Madoka Magica TV show and the Madoka Magica Rebellion sequel film, you're set. This new movie was written immediately following Rebellion, when Magia Record wasn't even a thing yet. There's always the possibility of a cameo or something, but the Magia Record story will have zero to do with this film. |

Considering the title is Walpurgisnaught Rising, i have a feeling this movie will have other parts not just a stand alone movie. It would not surprise me.

Hopefully most of the dub's cast reprises their roles. Christine Marie Cabanos and Cristina Vee can never be replaced as Madoka and Homura respectively.
