Only 3 episodes so far and this may already be one of my top anime's of the season.

As a reviewer are you really up to providing 100 different preview images in the future?

Loving this so far. It commits to an insanely absurd premise and embraces it in all its hysterical glory. The meta jokes and fourth wall breaks are especially funny, as are the eccentric and over the top personalities. And Rentaro is truly a treasure.

If there is something less than positive that I have to say, it's the very personal fact that, as someone with social anxiety, I'm a bit tired of this exaggerated portrayal where the character can't even utter a word. Nobody is like that in real life, and if someone is then, using the reviewer's words, they do need to get "fixed", for them and their happiness' sake.

But I want to be clear that this is just a thought, not a real complaint, I'm fully aware shows like this or Komi are intentionally over the top and unrealistic, being offended by this would be ridiculous and that's not what I'm saying at all.

Huh, I laughed more at episode 1 than 2 or 3. Guess that's unusual?

A beautifully animated, amazingly voice acted, and well-directed adaption of one of the best Harem romcoms of all time.

And this is only the beginning!

a move that is simultaneously brilliant and stone-cold stupid all at once.

I thinks this perfectly encapsulates why this series is so good; it perfectly balances these two aspects.

Yeah, this bugs me too. I get that this and Komi Can’t Communicate are comedies, so exaggeration is to be expected. But there’s something unintentionally mean about dialing up a character’s disability to levels so extreme they’d be in intense therapy if it were real life.

I think it's works for me because Japanese society and culture isn't really encouraging people to go seek therapy, especially with problems like one shown in this episode. I kinda empathize with it, because in my country even going to mere psychologist isn't common course of action for people and there is mental barriers, despite how normal it is in 21th century.

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this series at first. The title sounds like someone playing out a different kind of power fantasy, and despite liking a good romcom I wasn't sure this would be for me. The preview scores certainly got my attention. I liked episode 1, didn't think it was great, but it was fun. Episode 2 felt like a step back, the vice principle was an unnecessary part of the show, the less we see of her the better. But episode 3, man, that one got my first 5 star rating of the season. I really liked the way the story played out. We know he comes up with creative solutions to problems, but they haven't been all that successful and relied heavily on the girls being just as dumb as him. But this time we've seen him recognize an actual problem beyond "how do I get two girls to date me at once" and "who gets the first kiss" and come up with a creative solution that actually endeared him to his love beyond a superficial level. It was a great episode that checked a bunch of boxes for me.

Here's the thing. Normally if someone is so traumatized they're at the point that they've lost the ability to talk they'd be the type to run home and retreat to their bedroom. However, she's forced herself into a situation where she has to interact with others by working in the school library. The way she acts seems to be more about being flustered by him and not a total disability. As far as therapy goes, that doesn't seem like something she'd have access to when her mother has a total meltdown rather than being supportive, further traumatizing her daughter. She probably gets some counseling at school, though.

Here's a way to look at it: assuming this series lives up to its name and we have to hit 100 different girls*, you are going to have to utilize the various tropes that have been established in years of rom coms(tsundere, dandere, etc.). However, there is not nearly enough 'dares to hit 100 so we are going to need to probably see a number of characters that could fit into the same category with slight differences. Slight spoilers here but spoiler[we do get introduced much later to a girl who's also extremally shy but she just hides from everyone rather than being near mute. So both girls are the same kind of trope but because of the exaggerations given to each, they can be different enough as not to end up repetitive.]

It's only 3 episodes in and I already need 3 seasons.

After the first episode aired I couldn't help myself so read the Manga through again, and it just ruins me how much great stuff we aren't going to get to. I mean it's only after you get to spoiler[Hahari] that it starts escalating and never looks back, as between her and spoiler[Kusuri] they basically have an excuse for anything and everything.

Thankfully, credible leaks say 100girlfriends anime is 24 episodes split-cour season, so I guess they will officially announce next cour at the end of the Fall season.

The quality of the animation for this manga adaptation was most unexpected, really, I'm kinda surprised a madcap rom-com would have been given this remarkable treatment. But I must say, given the incredible source material, the current (in my eyes) best laugh-until-you-can't-breath comedy manga, it deserves the 110% effort Bilbury is putting into it. I don't see the quality waning and we are only at 97 girlfriends out of 100, so the best is yet to come. It's going to be knock-out nuts!

This episode was a step down in my opinion, I didn't find it all that funny. A big reason is Shizuka's gimmick being way harder to bear than I thought last week. Having a character engage in all that physical contact, declare their love and yet be unable to speak just feels wrong, and killed most of the jokes for me. And since Rentaro is supposed to be the best and most loving boyfriend ever, he should do his best to help Shizuka overcome her comically over-the-top yet incoherent anxiety to finally let her talk. I'm so tired of this misguided idea that suggests everyone is perfect as they are.

I get this kind of serious talk is a bit misplaced in a show like this, but it's undermining its comedy potential as well for me, so I feel like it's still worth bringing up. I'll try to make peace with it going forward, hoping Shizuka gets a little less screen time as new girlfriends are introduced.

What a rare opinion, first time seen one like this. I don't know know how her not talking by mouth is somehow kills the mood or jokes, she is succeeding at communicating anyway and text-to-speech makes it distinct and funnier from comedy standpoint. Rentarou forcing Shizuka, who until yesterday spend all of her life communicating certain way and speaking is her biggest struggle would just feel obtrusive and inconsiderate, overcoming something like this takes a lot of time. She didn't even had friends until now, weird that you expected the show to lean into some tryhard therapy right now. You maybe missed it in last episode, but it's not like they think it's a perfect solution and it won't be the best for her initially speak normally, Shizuka naturally taking a big step towards better future. I'm not spoiling much, when I say spoiler[ as time passes she naturally will get more and more instances of using her actual voice. Its much satisfying to see after some time and development] So serious talk is understandable, but feels misguided here
