So this is what happens when an anime project falls through part-way in?

More like when a mangaka is just too lazy to name a successor.

The author is getting up there in age, so that’s probably just a coincidence.

Calling Takahashi Yōichi lazy is very ignorant. He has been running the legendary Captain Tsubasa since 1981, and he's 63 years old now. He's a national treasure in my country (Japan) so its odd and weird calling him lazy, but maybe its a Western thing I don't know. This is only to finalize everything before wrapping everything up anyway

It would be easier to hand off the art to a team, as happened to Golgo, and only do the plot and basic breakdowns. Easer to market to.

I couldn't have said it better.

Also, Rowri8, I'm not calling Takahashi lazy, but just going into storyboard form FEELS lazy when he could have a team working on the rest while he comes up with the ideas. It'd be like an anime episode just having the preview sketches.

Plus, you have no idea how much Captain Tsubasa meant to me. I used to be the #1 fan of it in my country, and it led to me falling in love with football AND manga/anime. But Takahashi has made some choices that we, the fans in LATAM, have questioned many times, and this is probably one of the biggest "what the heck?" moments for us.
