This anime can never please such an unstable fanbase. Even so, I still love it, and it's one of the only anime out there that manages to execute a pretty decent plot with interesting (if annoying at times) characters in only 8 episodes. An impressive feat indeed.

It boggles my mind that someone managed to write a thousand words about BRS without even mentioning the blatant lesbianism.

I mean, thats pretty notable. Its not even subtext. spoiler[Kagari carved a heart into Yomi's chest!] Just to name one of the more blatant clues.

I am pretty obvious but I never connected that with lesbianism.

The TV series, good? The OVA was so horrible.

Well, both of them are horrible but I do think the TV is worse. One thing that I've learnt from watch BRS is that it turns out to be another one of those fanservice shows like DMC, or P4 the animation. Seriously, the game and manga have much better storyline.

Huh? This doesn't make any sense.

Fanservice in what way? While the game had a more interesting but more generic premise, the show itself managed to expand and improve considerably what was the godawful OVA (storywise not animationwise). It ended up being more interesting in terms of themes and action choreography that the manga is in my opinion anyway. One thing i think i picked up on was the way it showed the character of yuu as a sort of metaphor for otaku culture in japan. Im not to sure if that theory of mine would work under close scrutiny but in broad terms thats what i thought. But yeah long story short i dont think the series is worse than the OVA. And imaishi and his cohort akira amemiya did good in terms of eyecandy and this is what i tjink is a step in the right direction in how to use CG in anime.

The OVA is a somewhat rambling piece on young love and jealousy, which may or may not also involve Yomi turning into a green-eyed jealousy demon (or it could just be a metaphor).

I don't really know what was so terrible about the OVA, other than that it wasn't what people were expecting.

It's half boring shojo story which hinges on exaggerated melodrama (you're only allowed to have one friend!) and half neat but directionless stylized action scenes. They don't add up to anything although it tries to tell us otherwise; how did Yomi turn into a monster in another place and time? How Black Rock Shooter both seemingly its own thing and that other girl at the same time? This isn't surreality, it's just two unrelated things we are instructed are the same story.

Protip: Yomi wasn't jealous because Mato was her friend.

There are two ways to interpret it. First that its all metaphor. Which is a valid interpretation. The second is that all the BRS scenes after the initial fight with Black Gold Saw take place at the very end, after Mato meets BRS. You then string them all together and it makes perfect sense. Assuming you buy that Yomi did in fact become Dead Master...somehow.

The majority of people who enjoy DMC and P4 the animation are their hardcore gamer fans. They may have decent plotting, impressive visual but their direction is awful. BRS, in a way, is similar to those two. Once a first few episode keep you at the edge of your seat, the rest turns upside down.

Different people = different opinions. But in all three versions of BRS: a clone, a soul collector and an alter ego of some highschool girl then I prefer the first two.

Well, sure, whatever. Thats not really relevant to the point you appeared to be making, with the rather stretched comparison to DMC and P4.

What part about it is stretching? The majority of DMC and P4 anime fans are their dedicated gamers, from what I see, the fans of BRS anime are also fall to this category: die hard fans of the BRS franchise. I don't see anything so stretching since the three of them have many similarity, and that I just point out two of them.
