Looks mostly the same which is good. Chances are this will air in fall and it would be around the same time as the spoiler[arc the anime will adapt.]

I have not seen slam dunk. I can say that kuroko is the deep fried circus food of the anime world.

1. Where did I mention fujoshi? I said 'bishie lover'. There is a distinct difference between a bishie lover and a fujoshi.
2. Did I make it sound like that? Why no! I think any sports fan or even someone who doesn't like sports can enjoy the anime.

I've read six volumes of Slam Dunk and seen and read all of Kuroko's Basketball - it's much less a comedy and more of a straight-out sports series. It's very much typical Shonen Jump fare, but I think better than most.

It comes across as that you have to love bishonnens in order to like the show.
(as a guy) It's not like show actually has that great looking male characters, they look pretty normal (I don't really understand bushies though so)
