Glad to see they're still interested. I answered 4:3 on that question, because cropping is wrong. Whether it be to make something widescreen or to pan-and-scan a widescreen film, never do it. The only complaint I ever see it "but muh vertical black bars!", yet they don't complain with the horizontal bars present when watching something shot in 2.39:1, and they sure as hell don't have those weird 21:9 TVs.

AWW YEAH! Taking the survey now, and I'm glad to see they're still interested in putting out the show on Bluray. Hopefully they'll continue the remastering process used for the aborted Level 1.1 sets, as the transfer on those looked so crisp you'd could see the little mistakes in the animation.

I think they need to end this barrage of rerelases once and for all and here's the 3 things that they must do so no one gets pissed off.
1) Remaster it so that it looks its absolute best just like they did before. 2) Put the following audio - Original Japanese (obviously, even though it sounds horrible imo) - FUNimation dub with Japanese score - FUNimation dub with FUNi's score - Ocean Group dub with Ocean's score - Ocean Group dub with Japanese score (if one exists) 3) Re-relase Dragon Ball in the same (available) manner! ---------------------------------- What I would like to see is FUNimation re-release Dragon Ball Z Kai with THEIR remastered footage edited together to make it because Toei f*cked it up by using dirty film weaves full of dust, smudges, hairs and unsteady footage. Hell, I'd be willing to edit it for them FOR FREE!! And since Ocean is making their own dub for Z Kai, they ought to put that in as well. And then Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Z Kai won't need another re-release until the next video format comes out that surpasses HD and Blu-ray. |

I'd rather see more Dragon Boxes, but since I've already got mine (as far as DBZ TV), it's pretty easy to say that.
DB/Z/GT wasn't really made for Blu-Ray and I'd rather not leave the remastering process to Funimation, but the people that weren't lucky enough to get the DBZ Dragon Boxes should have an alternative that isn't those crummy Season Sets. |

Nothing shot on film was technically made "for BD", but that doesn't stop it from looking good on the format, so long as it's a competent transfer. |

Took the survey. Glad they're thinking about bringing it back...I'd be interested, depending on how good the restoration looks.
Truth be told, I wish they would Dragon Box the original Dragon Ball as well as GT and the films. And maaaaaaybe do a small re-release of the DBZ Dragon Boxes. Of course, that's me projecting: I started buying them pretty late in the game, unfortunately. So there's a handful of sets at reasonable prices and then the rest are going for 200+ bucks a pop. But they're just so nice! By the way, does anyone know if the Dragon Ball box sets suffer from the same problems that the orange DBZ sets do? I might be tempted to buy them if I knew they didn't. |

There probably isn't an Ocean dub with the Kikuchi score, and the original Ocean dub can't be synced to the uncut HD film they have due to the amount of cuts they made to it for broadcast. They possibly could edit together the HD footage to the ocean dub, but that would require an extraordinary amount of time considering it would involve cutting out film and even splicing episodes together. Nonetheless, there is that Rock the Dragon set that Funimation is putting out for fans of the Ocean dub.
The series was shot on film, so even though DBZ was made for analog television in the 90s, due to the theoretical resolution of film it can be scanned at higher resolutions and show off more detail than previous releases have. And while funimation certainly botched up the orange bricks and have had their share poorly encoded discs, the remastering they did on Bluray far surpasses the efforts from them or Toei (with the exception of missing NEPs or the title cards). You mean the blue bricks from funimation? Nope, they're in the proper 4:3 aspect ratio as intended, as is GT. |

Funimation got it right with the Dragon Boxes. I think they should have just stuck with those but unfortunately a lot of people seem to want them to jump the gun with these blu-ray releases.

I agree they did a better job with the Level Sets than the Season Sets, but I disagree that it's better than the Dragon Boxes. It's obviously too darkened. I'll leave the remastering to Toei. It's their show. |

Well that's a interesting idea/proposal, but I don't know if that can fit in a big 50 GB blu-ray, a 100 GB blu-ray would probably suffice for your idea. |

The audio takes up room, but not that much. The only issue would be if things were cut and the timing is off. |

I agree. Its only flaw is the lack of the faulconer track. And I really don't like kid gohan's dub voice in the dragon box. It's alright for pre-teen/teen gohan but it's too raspy for a child. Ocean's kid Gohan/Goku got his voice right imo. But anyway, I seriously hope this is the last DBZ on DVD release. DBZ doesn't need anymore releases. So I hope they'll make this a blu-ray/dvd combo and add the faulconer track, the kikuchi track with english dub, and of course original japanese track. Make this the definitive and final release. I would honestly prefer to see a better DVD release for Dragon Ball. Perhaps a new English dub with more accurate translation from the Japanese script. If we ever get the Dragon Box's for Dragon Ball I would love to see that happen but it's just a dream of mine. Not counting on it happening. |

Which one? Saffron Henderson or Jillian Michaels? I'll assume the former. I always liked her better than Stephanie Nadolny. Anyway, the English dub track on the Dragon Boxes was an afterthought. It was a release catering specifically to fans of the Japanese version. |

Once they digitize it, the process becomes much easier. Still more time consuming than not doing it, but changing the playlist to hop around more should be seamless to the viewer. I just hope the new, cheaper, process is still able to deliver the same degree of quality as the previous restoration. And since the chances of that are nearly zero, it would be nice if at least got close (4k coming soon and all  .)
