The problem is that the comedy programming, particularly Family Guy and Futurama, account for Adult Swim's highest ratings. FLCL did well enough and The Big O has reached third in the ratings on Sundays, but anime still isn't the main draw. AS is probably furthering anime's viability on TV, but I don't think to the degree you (and I) are hoping for.

I don't think that they should even have Family Guy or Futurama on Adult Swim. It just doesn't seem to fit into the "anime mood" that adult swim has. I don't know, I guess since it's a comedy and all, it could have a right to be on Cartoon Network, but I don't think it's necessary. It seems like it should be for Comedy Central or something. It just doesn't put you in the mood you want to be in when your watching anime in my opinion.

Umm, Adult Swim isn't an anime block....

THe problem is, if you read teh cards, is that anime fans don't do their job:watch the AS anime even if they are dubs. Until more anime fans tune in, American comedy will always win.

Why do people keep thinking these blocks are anime blocks? AS has tons of non-anime shows on. It's just supposed to be "adult" shows...not anime. That's why shows like The Oblongs and Futurama are in there.

As for the ratings thing? Here's what Williams Street had on their cards on 8/31:

Get out you're pencils.

Highest Rated Programs Last Sunday
[Viewers 18-34]

Birdman 445,000
Aqua Teen 439,000
Big O 378,000

By comparison:

Highest Rated Programs Since May
[Viewers 18-34]

The Oblongs 628,000
Sealab 568,000
Aqua Teen 550,000

Thank you for your
18-34 patronage.

Out of curiousity, was that typo found on the CN website? (Do I have to explain what it is for people? Yes, because that's one of the spelling mistakes that annoys me to no end. It should be "your", the second person, for both singular and plural, possessive pronoun. "You're" is the contraction of "you are".)

It aired on one of Cartoon Network's COB cards, the black and white cards shown as a slideshow during commercial breaks during Adult Swim.

They are how Williams Street talks to AS fans.

It's how someone typed it up on the AS forums over at toon zone. They usually write it down word for word....I, personally, never saw that particular card so I have no clue if it was a Williams Street typo or if it was a user typo. I just copied and pasted it Very Happy

For some reason, I never thought of asking this and I'm sorry if this is really obvious (keep in mind that I can't watch Cartoon Network at all because of the CRTC, so cut me some fricking slack, as Dr. Evil would say), but who or what is "Williams Street" exactly? I get all sorts of answers if I try a Google search. Is it a person, the street upon which CN is located, the unit of Time/Warner that runs CN, or what?

Oh, never mind, I found the answer.

Quote:
01. Question/Answer: Who are the Williams Street crew I seem to hear so much about?
Williams Street Productions, fondly referred to as the Williams Street crew by their fans, is the team behind the production of Toonami and Adult Swim. Williams Street is a physical location in downtown Atlanta near where the Cartoon Network and Turner offices are located. There they do the actual production of Toonami and Adult Swim as well as editing.

I quite know where I copied/pasted it from.
