Huh. It's finally ending.
Has there been any big events in the series since the tournament ended?

We've swapped perspectives for at least the past 3-4 volumes! The story's been all about FIGURE FOUR and DOC IDO back when Sechs was still on earth as they set out to try and find Alita.

For fans disappointed by the huge tourney arc, I'd say skip to volume 18, it feels much more like original Alita than Last Order has since they left Tiphares.

So what's going to be the last volume released, then? 20?

Volume 19 I suspect as Evening is only published every other month and 18 came out in April. 20 would have been a nice number.

First Japanese manga I ever got.

Amazing considering that Last Order basically expanded upon the hasty ending in the last few pages of the final chapter of the original series due to Kishiro-sensei's health. Those few pages were expanded to 19 volumes!

We finally saw Figure again in 18. Had been waiting since 1995 for him to show up again!!! Quite the long wait.

I actually liked the original ending, hasty or not. I hope it ends as well this time.

Finally James Cameron once again has the whole story for a movie!
(Originally Alita already ended way back when he first mentioned about doing a movie.)
Sp it's ended twice already before he even got 1 movie out yet. Laughing
(Though the closest we got was Dark Angel, Jessica Alba's breakout.)

Yes and I read that Avatar was done as a test for stuff he wanted to use in Battle Angel but now he is making a bunch of Avatar sequels, sigh... keep mining the cheddar, cheese indeed...

And I listed this manga as a series I'd love to see run forever in Viz's recent e-mail survey....oh, well...

Is that some sort of sick joke ?

We're finally rid of that overlong and boring Zott tournament and the manga ENDS just as it was about to get interesting again ?

That is really dissapointing Sad

i hope it isnt a hasty ending like with hikaru no go where you got the sense that they were told about a month in advance "ok wrap it up now"

Like the original Battle Angel/Ganmu you mean, though it was no "sick joke", the mangaka was indeed unwell at the time.

nobody raised contention with the original series ending, the sick joke comment from the poster above was just exasperation as they only just got out of a notorious "are they still on namek" moment and now the story is ending.

Like i say im just hopeful that the series is either wrapped up in a non hast fashion or left just open ended enough for continuation.

As much as the hikaru ending just seemed to happen in short order at least it would easy to pick up again should the authors feel the need to re-visit the series.

The strangest moment had to be chapter 100 in Ultrajump which just said, "last chapter" at the end but it wasn't really the end. That was a real WTF moment. It picked up later in Evening.

I found volume 18 was actually kind of slow. It was great to see Figure again but then I was like... volume 18 spoilers... spoiler[It was good to see Ido and what Figure was up to, see what's going on down below but... just meet and save Gally already will you! It reminds me of the Gally-free vampire backstory volume earlier. 18 wasn't completely Gally free, she was in the first chapter at least... and it was a good chapter.]

Yes, 23 years later (started December 1990), with a break for health reasons from 1995-2001... will finally finish in 2014.
