Awesome, a news article for the most interesting part of the podcast!
Sam did say these were launching in two weeks just like The File of Young Kindaichi Returns, at 27 min 36 s and possibly a few other times. He also said there would be 9 shows like this, with 1 or 2 being from Pierrot and the rest from Tatsunoko and Tezuka. So the latter two will be split between ~7 shows. This makes trying to guess what the other ones will be pretty interesting! And we can now add Mushi Production titles to the list of things we might see from Tezuka. I'm so stocked. 
Most people would probably say that 9 shows is too much again, but this time they're simply gauging interest rather than immediately funding DVDs, so that's cool. |

That's probably the smarter approach, so the things people really don't care for will just be weeded out quicker. Though, even as much as I enjoy older anime and learning the history and evolution of processes and styles, there's no way I'm trying out those super low budget kid shows. Maybe an episode to whet my curiosity, but I can't see actually watching the whole show.
As far as I can tell, Gordian has no fansubs, and likely no rips either, which means it's probably among the tossed-aside mecha of those overabundant late 70s days. Again, a shame there's no way to get some mecha fans would like to own like Zambot or Ideon, Sunrise definitely has the monopoly on attention. I'm glad to see Anime Sols steaming ahead and trying out new things. As an experiment, I like how Anime Sols is working everything, and I hope that they can find the right formula that works for them (and the right show to get people in to get it working). I hope that the Pierrot magical girls shows continue to be brought up for funding, I'm sure they'll work with the right push.
Considering the destruction of the original American tapes, the quality of available TV-rips, and the availability of the Australian (or any other English country) tapes, I assume that there is no way that Wonder 3 would be released dual-audio if it makes it to the DVD-set stage. It's always nice to hope, though. |

I hate to be the one that sounds sour but the only push they are getting are from Shoujo-esque and Magical Girl Anime fans and Black Jack's success isn't something I would "Wow" over. I know they are still in their early days but experimenting with this whole crowd funding thing hasn't sold me yet. Everything has been a struggle; trying to fund multiple sets of one series with maybe two other anime on the plate that's also trying to be funded... then others completely falling flat on they're face not even getting close to it's goal? Even funding one Anime at a time is an undertaking. Anyways, Outside of their crowdfunding stuff I'm totally behind their streaming content. Definitely not alone as the failure of the last set of Tezuka specials nearly destroyed me. Blue Blink, fine, we could tell from the start it would fail as it was the least popular series on the site (would've been the least funded without my input), but I reeeeally wanted Prime Rose on DVD and it got so far. If everyone who had pledged just added $60 it would've succeeded.
I think it's a really good idea to have a brand new series on the site to drive some traffic. Basically that's just the real problem here. Even though the site has lots of visitors, they'll rarely consider pledging on their first visit and rarely think to come back. |

Sweet! Now this is the update I wanted to see! More Tezuka, always good, and a later 70s/early 80s scifi mech show! I'll probably blindly pledge for the first two and check out the last one before jumping in, but I am excite!

And there's no way you're going to get the vast numbers of anime fans to even consider watching old B&W anime when even shows like Evangelion are reaching the point of being called "ancient" and OVAs from the 80s downright "unwatchable". Anime just doesn't have that mentality of keeping old things in the fan consciousness like live action cinema does. Could be the general youthfulness of anime fandom or it could be that most of that stuff is out of reach, or it could just because not many people care. Just because it's old doesn't make it any kind of must-have/must-watch unless it has some stronger importance to anime, which usually comes in the form of films like Horus, Hakujaden, Momotaro's Propaganda Sea Warriors, etc. The TV series of that archaic period are just the chaff; they're museum pieces as in the kind you'd have in the archives that only historians doing research would ever care to dig through. |

It's true that it's hard to get new fans of black and white stuff, however I think the fanbase for this stuff is already large enough if you consider the whole internet. Put the Dororo anime on Kickstarter and it'll get funded in a single day for sure, even restricting everyone outside of the US and Canada. So what Anime Sols needs really is to get those fans who would want to support these shows to visit their site. And to make them remember that it exists. |

I'd personally would like to see them license Hidamari no Ki, it seems to be a bit unknown amongst Tezuka's stuff but the premise sounds intriguing and the opening theme is quite lovely.

Coolness, hopefully this will get enough attention and maybe get a release. But folks have to want this one. I remember seeing this in older magazines so maybe I'll check it out. The live-action movie wasn't too bad.
