I'm a regular viewer of the dubbed anime on Nick (watch as their crap network attempts to get rid of this show as fast as Korra just because it's anime) and I own several LBX figures which look really awesome design-wise once they're put together. Sure this whole franchise is obviously aimed at youngsters and made to sell both the toys and the card game, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. I think I'll pick up the manga just to show my love for this series further. Thanks for reviewing this. :)

If that's why they got rid of it why must we be assaulted with Funimation's godawful DragonBall GT dub?

Because it's Dragonball.

Disappointed that the manga release sounds like it's edited as well

The real disappointing thing about the dub is how severely edited the show is. The script has been rewritten, including removing any references to attempts on killing someone, removing an entire arc about trying to assassinate the Prime Minister, and just some episodes out right removed or merged for no real reason. Guns have also been edited (adding a glow effect to the end of the guns, and changing the noise to laser sounds). Not sure how the guns people use were edited, however...

Music, of course, has been also re-scored, which surprises no one, but the worst aspect of it is the music is somewhat recycled from other Ocean hack job dubs, including going as far back as the Dragon Ball Z dub done by them.

Personally, I'd recommend anyone who wants to check out the series is to try to track down the Japanese version (in whatever way possible). I've enjoyed the hell out of it and it upsets me that Dentsu USA felt the need to edit the show the way they did.

So they are as cool as they look? Because I was this close to buying one when I saw them on Amazon! Smile

And you're most welcome for the review - this is one I'm really glad I did review, because I might have written it off otherwise, and I really enjoyed it. Though I guess I should be looking for the original version of the anime...?

Danball Senki's dub is like a relic of the early 2000s. Back when dubs like Cardcaptors, Yu-Gi-Oh, and One Piece which skipped and fused episodes and changed so much they may have well been entirely different shows were the standard. Then they started dying off, along with anime on kids TV in general. Seeing a new anime dub like that is a blast of nostalgia. And with Youkai Watch looming on the horizon, perhaps we'll see a resurgence of some kind. Though now that streaming and internet viewing is bigger than ever, I wonder how successful it could hope to be.

I imported the models years ago when it was airing in Japan, but I'm curious how the American toys are in stores. American versions of these toys tend to be a lot lower quality, smaller, and cheaper looking. I can't really tell much from screenshots, but I have noticed the price difference. These kits cost about 5-10 bucks in Japan, but the MSRB in America is 19.99 which seems a bit ridiculous.

I'm kind of surprised about the guns at all when I saw them. At first I was thinking it was finally okay to have firearms in a kids show like this and that the laser thing made sense at first since it's the future and all, but since I never saw the Japanese version, I had nothing to compare notes with. Normally if they can't edit firearms out of things, they usually skip the episode in its entirety.

To be honest though, I always knew it was edited. For example, in one episode, I knew I heard Monster Rancher dub music playing in the background. So yeah, I had my proof. I just wanted to give the dub a chance since the voice acting is quite good and I recognized a lot of my favorites who voiced in the Mega Man X OVA and Maverick Hunter X.

They certainly are! But I get all of mine from HobbyLink Japan and they look great put together. Keeping the boxes for their epic artwork is a plus on top of that.

From what ChibiGoku explained, perhaps we should seek it out. Although, to reiterate, I expected this. We have to remember that Nick is a kids network first and foremost, and having guns and mention of killing others is "very naughty" for their brat-centric policy, even though kids are learning about that stuff a lot more easily these days.

Good luck with that cause just like Pokemon , heavy metal beyblade & yugioh , Dentsu USA is doing the whole "copyright violation" crackdown to keep the anime version kid friendly in the US. but if they think their gonna fool the average kid, their dead wrong. eventually just like with those series , both the anime and manga versions of this series will eventually be fansubbed and those fans will eventually dump this hacked up version for the fansubs.

i am afraid not.

there is a reason why most kids and teens in the otaku community know pokemon girls like kasumi (misty) , haruka (may) , hikari (dawn) airisu (iris ) as well as serena and both girls from the black and white series. and why this girl wont be as popular character at all.

because they were drawn like that and as a result the anime series too note and had them animated like that as well. even female adults like shirona (cynthia) , and satoshi's mom had something similar in the anime which is why their popular. especially shirona.

even some of the main girl characters from the yugioh series especially anzu from the original , aki & carly nagisa from 5d's and akane from gx had been drawn and animated somewhat similar in both the anime and manga counterparts. and combined with their personality development why their also popular in the otaku community too.

so while not making her like that would help but only to parental advocates and really little kids, it unfortunately wont attract older people from the otaku community at all to the manga let alone the anime unless the manga is a complete unedited japaneese translations and the anime does what the license holders for both the pokemon and yugioh franchises are too chicken halfed assed to do and is to release some episodes that are using the original japaneese script and are using proper subs instead of fans have to rely on fansubs.

I see your point, jr0904, and I probably was looking at it from too academic a perspective. And even if you take your comments and transfer them to toys, Barbie still outsells most attempts to make a less-sexy counterpart for her. As an adult woman, I like the less sexualized design for Amy, and to be honest, I was that weird kid who would have liked her better when I was little too. But there's a good chance that I'm in the minority.

doubt it here. though in japan where the main cash cow is?yes. and its as i said. unfortunately cause of this amy will probably be known by only fans of the series. whereas girl characters from pokemon and yugioh will gain popularity in the otaku community because they didn't try to americanized them too much. probably why sega and that toy company didn't made that decision for the designs for the female characters for bakguan.

Not entirely sure I'd agree Ami isn't sexualized, or at least designed to be aesthetically pleasing to male viewers. She has the standard mini skirt and thigh high stockings going on, and there's very little reason to wear those kinds of zettai ryouiki outfits other than to look good as they're not really practical. Maybe that's just my tastes, though.

Maybe I'm opening a can of worms better left alone, but I've found that very few items of specifically women's clothing (as in, not jeans or other generally unisex items) are all that practical. Laughing I love my skirts, but no matter what length, they can hamper your ability to do things.

As for Amy, I also meant that she's not drawn to have an overdeveloped body for her age, and while her skirt is short, it doesn't seem designed to emphasize her behind or crotch, like some of the Pokemon outfits.

I'm with Princess Irene here. Why on earth does every anime have to be done the superfans way? If that happened,a lot of anime wouldn't even come to this country, much less be shown at a reasonable hour. Leave "LBX" alone, superfans. Let kids be kids. You can't have everything your way. I've had to learn that lesson. Why can't you?
