So we're back to the year of the Monkey again. Last time it was 2004 now it's 2016. But red fire? Sounds like really powerful stuff. I know maybe one person born in that year. I took the time to read Journey to the West back in 2004, so I'm a big fan of the character and story element.

February 8 marks the beginning of a Yin Fire year, so, I strongly disagree with the bolded part. Fire follows Wood in the cycle, which means that, during the Yin Fire year, you're burning off the growth from the previous element cycle. I would expect that the personal breakthroughs will happen next year, 2017, during the Yang Fire portion of the cycle. The fire smolders and the Earth element replaces it in 2018. According to the Lunar cycle, when it's your animal year, it's typically not a good year for those born during that sign. So, this will not be a great year for monkeys. And, as the monkey's default element is metal, fire will be an interesting year for it. Once again, all for entertainment purposes, eh?

Hopefully Abe will learn that his economic policies aren't doing any good and scrap them. Also, this is an election year for Americans and not the best time as we have tyranny in Clinton and Trump who need to learn that they're policies are atrocious for America.

When I read the title, I knew that the person who asked the question doesn't know the Chinese zodiac.
So, those people will turn 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 or 84 this year. |

I haven't studied this at length, but what you wrote here contradicts most of the Chinese astrology forecast for 2016 I could find. It seems like the consensus about the year for Chinese astrologers is pretty decent, although there's still quite an array of differing opinions. I tried to give the most popular ones from what I found. But regardless, I remember 2004 being a pretty good year for me, so I'm optimistic.

I like when Renge's drawing New Year's cards on Non Non Biyori Repeat, she makes what looks like a sheep (for 2015), but turn it upside down and it's a monkey (for 2016).
Of course, if Repeat takes place during the same time period as the first Non Non Biyori season, that would mean that the first season took place 2 years in the future from when it was made (2013). |

OMG. I died laughing at that line.  Just because of the intonation I heard in my head. lmao Great excuse to crack out the Fruits Basket DVDs/manga and introduce the younger generation of anime fans to a great character driven story for sure!
Looking back...actually, I bet Fruits Basket was the origin point of my current familiarity with the Chinese Zodiac. I'm a proud Sheep/Goat.

Apparently, I was born in a Rabbit year so I'm a bit hopeful based on what Justin wrote. There are actually some long-term goals I've been fretting about lately, so if horoscopes have any accuracy, maybe 2016 will be ok for me.

You can probably guess my sign...there are so many famous monkeys though! I did a little digging online too and learned quite a bit. There are some contraditions to my personality, but overall I am kind of amazed that I share some of these qualities. My element appears to be fire, and it might be a difficult year....
This type of thing is interesting though. Astrology, horoscopes, and elements...I like the idea that carries back so far into Chinese history. Tarot card themes seem to pop up a lot in anime too. Are they related as well? |

It depends. If you were born in Jan, you have to move back one year because they are based on Chinese new year. It normally happen in Feb. |

And if not Fruits Basket, at least Kagura and Osaka trying to remember all twelve in the Azumanga Daioh episode--They never got as far as Monkey, either. ("Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Adder.......Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Adder...") The first season of Folktales From Japan even had the folktale about how the animals were chosen for the symbols, how the Cat didn't end up on the list, and just why he hates Rat. |

The monkey guy Ritsu Souma in FB, that scene where he freaks out was always hilarious. I can never stop laughing about it. But he's very sweet. Oh Akitaro Daichi you are my hero who makes me laugh. |

I was born in the year of the Dog, Wood Dog that is however I don't feel that I share that many traits with the dog I'm not really loyal to anyone I usual take things seriously so I'm not really all that playful so to me the zodiac is just for fun not that I get in on it.

Yep, I was given an Etotama poster, so I just put it up in my room, and it's right in front of me as I type. I can never remember the order of the Chinese zodiac animals though, just the creatures.
This still put me WAY ahead of some of the competitors in that "Chinese Restaurant" episode of Race to Escape though. There was one point where the teams were asked to observe the zodiac chart and determine which animal "is its own worst enemy." A woman on the red team blurted out "FISH!" and ran off to fiddle with the fish tank by the wall leaving her teammates to stay by the zodiac chart and try to figure it out for themselves. (This woman was more destructive to her team than that though--she had a bad combination of recklessness and charisma, which meant she repeatedly guided her team through the wrong answers and was too proud to admit she was sometimes wrong. Race to Escape is a good show to watch if you want to cringe at how bad some people are at teamwork.) |
