Funimation sure likes to spend money on redoing it's online platform. Hopefully they come up with something cool.

From one of the videos on the FunimationNow.com, the new design for the website and apps looks much better than what we currently have.

I'm really hoping they drop that stupid $10 smart-phone app, $10 to remove a banner ad is so stupid.

This will be good news if it comes with a fix for colour ranges being expanded

Here's hoping it actually works without crashing all the time, and lets paying subscribers watch uncensored/BD-version videos in the language of their choice.

Grah, no Roku update until May. That's the main (pretty much only) way I use my membership.

Hmmm, also no word on how this will effect existing subscribers. Guess it's only a re-branding and not a totally new service? I just paid up for 2016...

When they are simulcasting directly from Japan... That will not be possible but when they do a actual release at a later date it will be possible because Japan also sends them the censored versions while they are airing for the first time and Funimation has to work with what they got when they do ADR work.

EDIT

Now they can still get uncensored versions of the sub like Crunchyroll did with Teraformars but that would be a few weeks down the line...

In other words... What we get is what Japan gets when they air their stuff. They will find it unfair if we get uncensored stuff before Japan gets them first.

I dunno... Personally I prefer FUNimation's old logo better:

Apple TV is nice (now that third-party apps are allowed), though I'll probably continue to prefer my Roku. As for the mobile apps, let's hope they tie into the queue used by the website and the Roku app - on iPad, I've had to use the "favorite" star as a way of bookmarking episodes I've already watched.

Also, that new logo… why?

Yeah having to add and remove the shows from the app separate from the website/roku is a pain. Hopefully they link the progress to so you don't have to rewatch the end on the website so it knows you actually watched it. Love watching it on roku, though its GUI needs improvement.

I hope this redesign fixes the darkness problem that some (most? I don't watch enough shows) Funimation streams have. They do something to the video that makes them darker. It's not usually a problem until you get an actually dark scene in an anime. Those dark scenes on Funimation's streams become ridiculously dark. It can be hard to tell what's going on.

The worst offender I've seen is Heroic Legend of Arslan if you want to watch a show get messed up by Funimation's stream.

So is this a going to affect the online streaming on their web site, or just the app? It seems like the former, but I just wanted to make sure.

I did a bit more digging on their site since I wondered the same thing, and it looks like February's changes will mostly be about the app, and then May is scheduled for changes to the website. As far as I can tell, the way I use the streaming service, meaning the regular website or on Playstation, won't see any difference until at least May. This is where I found the information: http://www.funimationnow.com/

Im just happy Apple TV will finally be getting an app. I work at an Apple Store and Justin Sevakis came in to buy a controller for it. I told him how I bought the new Apple TV specifically because I felt like Funimation would have an app.
